The UK as a secular state

Maybe nations based on a religion or tribe just don't work? I think of the UK as a secular state even though the state is tied up with christian trappings. (Who cares about selecting bishops anyway? And why the hell not select women or gays or gay women for god's sakes? Come on!)

Well, my post is really about the idea of a secular UK. The disestablishment of the church would probably help this along.
