The UK as a secular state

Aug 18, 2010 05:21

Maybe nations based on a religion or tribe just don't work? I think of the UK as a secular state even though the state is tied up with christian trappings. (Who cares about selecting bishops anyway? And why the hell not select women or gays or gay women for god's sakes? Come on!)

The UK should be convivial for we agnostics or Muslims or Hindus or whatever. Wasn't it Marcus Auralius who said that we are put on this earth to work together?

If I were a jew, I don't think I would want to be a part of Israel. I would rather be part of the UK. I wouldn't want Israel associated with me with all it's aggressive-defensiveness. So much violence. So much death.

For instance. How the hell did Israel manage to kill all those people on the Mavi Marmara boat to Gaza? What a statement about Israel! This is a Military Occupation. We control with violence. We control with death. It looks so... weak. Wasting life...

I don't want a religion-based or tribe-based UK. It's too much us and them. Let us be a home for diversity.
