Kim smiles her thanks and makes a mental note to only have one glass of wine tonight, two at the most. She doesn't mind at all going out with John, she just doesn't want to mess up what they've begun. She likes it too much, although she finds that she still blushes and feels turned on whenever she thinks about that night...

He walks after her almost jogging to catch up. Reaching her, he puts his hand on her arm and swings her around to face him an pulls her into a kiss.

"How's that?" He asks with a slight smirk as he leans back to look into her eyes, which seemed to shine like emeralds.

"Mmmm, better."

Kim is tempted to stand there and kiss him some more, but he wanted to walk by the water, but if they keep standing here like this they won't get a chance. To save both of them she pulls from his embrace and starts walking again, a little faster this time.

He walks just as fast, keeping up with her pace. "Are we moving too fast? And I don't mean walking here right now."

"Probably. But I don't think we're going to be able to stop, do you? In fact, I was going to ask you, after we went for our walk, if you would take me home. Not my home but yours. For a little while anyway."

Carter nods, absorbing Kim's words. They've reached the water, and a small walkway that goes a few feet into the lake.

"That...yeah. I'd like that. Although, you know. your house is my house, technically." He gives her a little smile.

"This is where we let him go. George, I mean. We had him...his ashes..." Carter looks out over the water. "It's the first time I've been back here. And you know what? I feels...It feels good."

She gets serious then and moves closer to him, taking his arm. "Oh, I didn't know." She doesn't really know what to say since it's such a sad topic but he just said he feels good, so she doesn't say anything and instead rests her head on his shoulder as she looks out over the water.

He slides his arm around her, holding her close. "It's okay. I'm okay," he says softly. "Being here with you, it feels right." He turns and kisses her forehead.

"Yes, it does." Kim feels too weird though to truly kiss him here so she is content to just have him hold her like this, truly hoping he has found peace with the loss of his child, or at least as much peace as one could hope to have in such a situation.

"Now that I've kind of ruined the mood. Want to head back home?" he asks after a moment. "But, I'm really...I'm okay. You and Kathy have helped me get my head back on straight. My son died, I didn't. Maybe some part of me died with him, but most of me is still here. Here, with you. And...I'm ready to move on. I guess that's why I wanted to come down here. Just to make sure. And...I'm sure. I feel a certain peace being here with you."

"I'm glad. I think you've done the same for me, John. I left a lot behind in Boston. A lot, including a man I would have married. And I'm sorry that I hurt him, and even sorrier that my son was hurt by his own father. That hurt me more than anything. But Leo seems to be doing so well here, and I feel a lot better being here than I ever thought I would. A lot of it is because of you."

"Have you heard from Trey at all?" Carter asks with genuine concern.

"Not really." She shrugs. "We kind of have an agreement to let each other alone for now. An unspoken agreement. He knows that I'm going to stay here now I'm sure. I mean I'm sure Jordan has told him. So I guess that probably says enough and he doesn't need to ask me anything."

"I guess that's good. I mean...are you okay with that?" Carter asks gently. "I mean...you know. Sometimes I still think about Kem. Mostly I just hope she's happy."

"Yes, I'm fine with it. I still care about him. We didn't have a fight, we didn't have a falling out or anything. I just... needed to come here, and knew that it would be best for me to stay. Best for Leo. And I basically forbid Trey from uprooting himself and following me here. Actually, at the time I thought maybe I would still want to go back there and be with him but... it didn't happen that way."

"I can't help but feel sorry for him, then. He's let a wonderful woman slip through his fingers. But...his loss is my gain, so it seems." Carter says with a little grin.
