Too many things to sum them all up, so I'll split in smaller posts.
I just finished coordinating a 3-pronged attack between the school, the health board and the CRDI (readaptation center for intellectual defiency - even though a Pervasive Development Disorder is not an intellectual deficiency, the services required are often similar, like speech therapy and etc., so they assigned it there). We are sieging the pediatric clinic. Alex has been waiting for 2.5 years since his last appointment, he was to be seen 6 months later. Despite my calls and even showing up in person to ask what was going on, they still didn't give us an appointment.
His ADHD flared up in all its splendor...
Back in November, we had a meeting with the school. The CRDI was there and we requested that the school psychologist evaluates Alex for ADHD. It was said that he would. So, we left the meeting, expecting developments on that regard. I indeed received a very long survey about my son's behaviors and habits and etc. that I filled and returned. Then, nothing for months...
Things got ugly. My son holding on to my neck, his little body shaken by bitter tears, apologizing for not being able to stay put, for not being able to focus, for... I tried to tell him that it's not his fault - it was obvious that it wasn't deliberate on his part. He was going down the hill. He stopped laughing, he was sad all the time, anxious...
I shook up the school. They informed me that Alex was not put on the #1 priority and that they were not planning to evaluate him until they would receive word that the situation got worse... "What?! That's not what I've been told in November! And there I was waiting while powerlessly watching my son sinking?" I received the evaluation report shortly after...
Alex now needs to see the pediatrician to set the medication protocol. Armed with the evaluation report, I gave one copy to the CRDI and one copy to the Health Board and asked them to help me by contacting the clinic. I did the same with the school psychologist, explaining what I already did to try getting an appointment for my son. The school psychologist went to the pediatric clinic to turn in the report in person. The Health Board will contact the pediatric clinic to give them a heads-up. The CRDI will do the same.
Now, I wait. I won't wait forever though - I know exactly who to contact at Radio-Canada.
