Not to say that the online petition is rubbish, but surely one would get better mileage by writing a real letter like the one at http://hrw.org/english/docs/2008/02/13/saudia18046.htm ?

I'm starting to get involved with Amnesty International (see http://www.amnesty.org/ ) and that's what they do all the time - investigate cases and write to the authorities about them.

I wrote the letters to my congressman and senators the first time I posted about this.

That seems like a good thing to have done. I don't know anything about how an online petition would be received by Saudi authorities, but real letters from other countries on the subject (especially from other governments) will show them that people do notice what goes on.
