Okay, in Chapter 29 in the 5th book, Harry has Careers Advice with Prof. McGonagall, and when he informs her that he wishes to become an Auror, she tells him that they ask for a minimum of five NEWTS (with none under "Exceeds Expectations"). During the interview, along with some many interruptions from Dolores Umbridge, McGonagall tells Harry that ( Read more... )

I reackon the others are just pre-requisites. like how in uni we HAVE to have studied 2 units of maths to be eligable for a specific course, but it doesnt matter what else we have studied. As in, he gets to chose the other one. :) or is that what your asking? - what would he chose?

Well, McGonagall gets cut off by Umbridge before she can tell him all the information he needs... So I am assuming that he actually needs to study those subjects... But even so, what would you choose as a 5th subject, seeing as how Harry is attempting to become an Auror. What other subject would be beneficial to this profession?

i think there are 2 possibke ways that it could go.
Firstly advanced DaDa. Due to the way times are going and the resubmergence of voldmort, then defanatly advanced DaDa.

Or there could be a completly different subject that he ahs to study, one just for auror's. Like this part in the book leaves a really good opening for a great twist and adventure. Thats what i love about her writing. It always keeps you second guessing.

It's like how at high school English is the only compulsory subject, but we still have to have at least 10 units, even if some of those subjects aren't compulsory for whatever uni course we want to get into..

Harry really should have chosen arithmancy or ancient runes, but care of magical creatures would work too because they can be a danger to wizards if you do know how to treat them.

well, what about diviniation or how ever you spell it, harry has had some "pretend" profosies come true, particuarlly in the 3rd book where he pretends to see what buckbeak's future is. perhaps then he will keep with that? or did he drop that at the 5th book? i really don't know or remember. but, knowing rowling, she'l probably just forget and just keep harry in all his previous subjects anyway. . .
