For the Record

  • I am agnostic. No, not atheistic, agnostic. I currently don't believe in organized religion as such. I don't know whether God/gods/omniscient being(s) exist(s) or not (neither do I deny nor affirm His/their/its existence). I have been educated as a Roman Catholic, and am well aware of the history and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church. I go to ( Read more... )

my dad believes in pascal's wager which is basically goes something like this. [i think]

i dont really know if there is a god and an afterlife, but living my life as if there was really one will render better results than living life as if there were none. if i live my life well and it turns out there is a god and there is an afterlife, at least i get rewared, but if there isnt a god or afterlife, there is no harm done. if i live my life badly and there is no after life or god, then there's no harm done either, but if i live my life badly and it turns out that there is a god and an afterlife, then im bound to suffer eternal damnation. id rather live well than risk eternal damnation.

Yep, I know about that one. :) However, being agnostic doesn't mean I'm going to be evil (although, I have been labeled a evil genius). :)

I've got the same quirks about organized religion and the same outlook as to its practices. I go to mass every Sunday and frankly, I've only missed a handful of masses my whole life, but only at my mom's insistence and request.

I remember this discussion I had with a member of the INC group. He was zealously explaining to me their manner of worship and their interpretation of the Bible. I asked him outrightly if he's proselytizing (because that was the impression I was getting, otherwise, what's with the whole rah-rah-rah) and he only said, "You can't even come to terms with your own faith. Why will I ask you to join mine?" Hahahaha I still find that hilarious even if it was said with utmost seriousness on his part.

As for the Da Vinci Code, I read it, too, out of sheer boredom. It has a typical Hollywood-ish plot. So predictable. I only appreciate his imagination's bravado but that's it and nothing more.

I never understood the hoopla over Da Vinci Code. Not that I've read it but from what I hear, Jesus had kids! Mary Magdalene was a mom! And I'm like, dude, that kind of speculation has been around for centuries. Why it's even been made into the subject of a computer game!

... and that's partly why I prefer Eco's Foucault's Pendulum to Brown's Code.

I have read Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. I have two words for you: It Sucks. I'll probably write a full-blown essay about why Da Vinci Code is fatally flawed.

Write it soon. But I must admit that I loved it.
