Rose!

Poor Ruby. She is not going to be a happy camper with this. But it could have been so much worse.

She definitely won't enjoy the experience. *pets Ruby*

The last part with Ruby giving comfort to Elias is very touching.
Poor Elias, I have feeling it's going to be hard for him not to treat Ruby as a porcelain doll.

Thank you. Ruby really is Elias's anchor--even moreso than Peter.

I love the comfort they all draw from each other here.

Thank you, ma'am.

Urg, Poor Ruby. I can't imagine having that many injuries. And poor Elias, being so scared for her! But they were very very lucky. I'm sorry I haven't been commenting... my life kinda went nuts for a few days.... But I'm all caught up now! And this story is wonderful.

I feel like I want to comment on every paragraph. I'll try to narrow it down.

“But I’d rather not tempt fates who were terribly generous today.”
It could have been so much worse, and until he knew the truth his imagination would have been supplying all the worse it could have been. Elias will certainly feel a need to be protective and grateful while he comes down from this.

“I’m going to hate this in a day or so,” ...

“Probably,”
And yet even having that self awareness on both sides probably won't stop them from getting cranky with each other.

“Been checking my mobile, then, Peter?”
A fair question, he is a detective after all. But sometimes the information comes without that much work at all.

“Not yet. Soon, but don’t tell anyone that. Something my employer’s been working on, let’s say.”So at least someone at the table still doesn't know about Torchwood. I'm a little curious how they're managing that. You could drop me in a world with inferior medicines and I might know better is possible but I wouldn't have the first idea how ( ... )

Aw, c’mon-these are short chapters! Surely you could have fit it all into a post?

(I’m only sort of kidding. I really do enjoy your thoughts and feedback)

Elias will certainly feel a need to be protective and grateful while he comes down from this.

It’s going to take him a long while to truly move past this. I mean, he’ll be fine enough with appearing to cope, but I think seeing car wrecks will be a trigger for him for a fair while.

So at least someone at the table still doesn't know about Torchwood. I'm a little curious how they're managing that. This is actually fascinating to me, as it was written with the idea that they all knew about Rose’s real job, but none of them were willing to openly discuss it in the flat. Your interpretation never occurred to me-but now, having heard it and re-reading what I wrote, of course it’s the most logical conclusion ( ... )

Authorial intent-wise, though, they all know of Rose’s job. But because they’re in an “unsecure” flat, for lack of a less governmental term, they’re not willing to specifically state who her real employer is.

mmm... I have friends whose jobs we don't talk about - inevitable in this area really, I feel like everyone knows someone with a job they don't discuss. And we don't say even when everyone knows, just so we don't have bad habits when in other contexts.
