Sigh. I'm glad Ruby's home, but I feel so bad for her. I keep forgetting how much medicine sucks in your Pete's World! I'm glad Rose is going to get her something to prevent infection. I loved this bit -

“This is going to be miserable,” she said when he was done, her face drawn.

“No, it’s not,” he replied gently. Off her doubtful expression he amended, “Well, yes, it will be. A bit. But we’ll muddle through.”

It's not a fun time for Ruby, that's for certain. But she's got a strong constitution, and a husband who'll pretty much kill anything that harms her, so she'll be fine. ;)

I think Elric often feels this way about me when he brings me home from the hospital when I get very ill. I know that look and that desperation very very well, unfortunately. You have portrayed this beautifully -- I just love reading about Ruby and Elias (and Rose and Peter), even when you have them hurting so much.

Thank you. It *is* fun--sometimes--to torment the characters, because it allows for more depth in their interactions with each other. And, well, Elias is so *lovely* when he's being tormented. XD

Ahh poor Ruby, I'm glad she has Rose on her side helping with superior medication.

There are definite advantages to being friends with Rose Tyler. ;)

Just knowing that someone else is there if anything happens can really set your mind at ease.

*nods* Not that Elias would *ever* acknowledge that. But I think he does sleep easier, knowing there are other folks there for the night.

Poor Elias. :( I wonder how much he'll hover and if it will eventually drive Ruby spare. Lovely chapter, but I have to say the last few paragraphs were exceptional. They were so tender and true.

Thank you. Ruby truly is Elias's most precious thing, and it's terrifying for him to realize he could have lost her. He really, really doesn't like not being in control--or not being able to influence events--so this is just a baaaaad situation for him all around.
