Oh, they have so much they need to muddle through don't they

They do indeed. But it's muddling through this (and some other, not nearly as awful, things) that makes them the couple we finally meet in ASTG.

The descriptions of *everyone* falling apart are so beautifully done here. It's a skillfully drawn portrait of everyone having PTSD.

in DW, we never stop to see the aftermath of something like this...I love that you're bringing all that out into the open.

I think that may be one of the hardest things Rose has to learn to live with, once she's stuck in Pete's World: Having to stay and deal with the aftermath.

Ooooh, lovely. When we think about this event from Rose's point of view, or the Doctors, we don't really think about the fallout that went on after they returned to their universe. But obviously there would have been a lot to deal with after the cybermen were defeated.

Indeed. And, unfortunately, Ruby and Elias are part of the group that will have to help clean up. Although to be fair, *everyone* who survives has to help with the clean up, because it's such a massive disaster.

Seeing the aftermath of the Cybermen attack in this world from their point of view is something that I both feared to see and was looking forward to see in this story -- and you carried it off beautifully. The description of the PTSD both of them are suffering is spot-on. And what struck me hard was the parallel you drew between Elias and the Doctor in these lines:

Elias had a terrible habit of thinking he had more control over things than he truly did. He felt responsibility far more than any man she’d ever known, to the point that he still had frequent nightmares about losing his friends in the service. She couldn’t imagine how long he was going to take to heal from this-or if he’d ever allow himself to.

Only, of course, Elias has to deal with the aftermath while the Doctor gets to skip off. ;) I think this sense of responsibility is what helps to make Elias such a good Detective: He's tenacious in investigations, because he feels a deep sense of obligation to the victims.
