This was lovely. I mean, crippling and horribly depressing, as they deal with the aftermath... but still. At the end, their understanding is a bit heartwarming. :D

In the immortal words of Nietzsche, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." Ruby and Elias are both strengthened by this experience--as is their relationship.

That said, of course this is something they both wish had never happened, and is something that they almost *never* talk about outside of their own home. Ever.

I just want to gather them up and tell them everything's going to be all right--but that's why they have each other.

*nods* And of course we all know they end up fine by the time Elias meets Peter. But it's still hard to think about the things they had to suffer to reach that point.
