In the end, finding Swinson was the easiest part of the entire endeavour-if driving in circles, playing hot and cold, for several hours as the evening turned into night could be called ‘easy.’
They had spent fruitless hours driving in and around Kendal, chasing down red herrings and old traces, dutifully calling to check in every hour. The time

funny that it was her romantic betrayal that had pushed him over the edge
Just goes to show that love is one man's downfall and another man's saving grace - brilliant parallel (or, perhaps, perpendicular?).
He couldn’t remember the last time he’d thought of that; during her time in Kendal, during their time together, he’d come to think of her as simply Rose.
That bit got my heart pounding a bit quicker - what a dear, dear sentiment.
And you should have seen her blush! Like a right virgin, that one.”
Peter choked on his coffee. Oh, I love it! Not only is it just too adorable - doesn't it show how far our dear ( ... )

One of the ficlets will address this...well, hopefully. I still have to write it ;)

Indeed--love is either a salvation or a damnation, depending on how much you let it control you. Good thing Peter's on the winning side of that parallel.
The Rose effect is profound and far-reaching to be certain!
Oh, definitely. :)
I can't wait for the thrilling conclusion. but as I keep saying, I'll be sad to see it come to an end.
*sigh* You and me both.
Have a good week!

Bless Louise, though. The look on Peter's face would have been priceless.

Everyone needs a barista like Louise :) As for Peter, I imagine he turned a lovely shade of pink, remembering the virginal Rose playing board games with him...

From everything I've read, police work is very boring, and this chapter underscores that--driving around, waiting, writing reports; not exactly like police work on the telly. But I loved seeing it, because it's realistic, and Peter is really showing his stuff. It's amazing how good he is at his job, when he's gotten so little positive reinforcement through the years. And I bet he hasn't even connected that he's about to get recruited for Torchwood.
I was so sad to see that this is the next-to-last chapter, but I'm so excited to see what happens in the last chapter, how Peter and Rose figure out a way to be together now that the case is over. Thank you!

Police work has it's exciting moments--but those are sprinkled in amongst the boring bits. The paperwork, the interviews, the slow and methodical working trhough the bits and pieces of a whole that lead to solving a case. It was tempting to write a whiz-bang resolution, but it wouldn't really have been representative of what things were normally like for Peter. Not to say he's not had his share of adventure, solving crime; just that it's the exception rather than the rule.
Peter is really showing his stuff.
I think writing Peter in full-on detecting mode is pretty much my favorite. I enjoy the smut, I enjoy the banter; but writing Peter being DI Carlisle is just plain fun.
And I bet he hasn't even connected that he's about to get recruited for Torchwood.

I really liked having Peter's point of view for this chapter, not only for his interaction with Louise, which was hilarious. I like how we can see him in his police detecting element, and how much a part of the team Rose's men have allowed him to become. Probably the first time he's been accepted to a group in decades. I also like now we see him doing the uncertain over thinking of the relationship and the case wraps up. Can't wait till Thursday. Hope you have a good holiday!

Things had to be resolved at some point! But yeah, I think it might be one of the livelier chapters, action-wise, of the entire lot.

Peter's really grown, both personally and professionally; this chapter finally let me out-and-out bring that to the fore. Of course, I think Rose and her colleagues have also benefitted from knowing Peter, so it's a nice balance.
Still, there are a few more things that need to be addressed; notable amongst them are how things are going to go with he and Rose.
Hope you have a good holiday!
You, too!
