It's sorta like... gibberish that's understandable from context?
And I actually DO have one line that's "asfjklas;dfj" because Edo Harumi is just...making sounds. lol XD
I'm still trying to figure out what Waseda wants. B/c culture and lang. acquisition is basically the MAIN thing, haha. I'll need to make up 2 pages worth of stuff...
I would do "me shoo happy" usually, because urepii would not have sense to anyone who doesn't know what ureshii is unless you make a note and let them know that it's a gibberish of ureshii which means happy?
:D Good luck with the application writing. I know it's hard.
itadakimasu is a hard one, I think for shota bistro, I translated to 'I will start eating!' which is not the actual meaning, but would make the conversation flow. I am personally ok with having romanized translations, but then obviously there are pple out there who hates it (as u can see from the hate memes and Je-secrets), don't they understand it sometimes IMPOSSIBLE to translate those things. BLEAH!!! hmmm, ya, but for itadakimasu's case, maybe 2 translation notes will be the way to do it. Sorry I can't offer better suggestions than that!!! *headache* :D
It's always nice to hear from other translators, no matter what. And from the viewers, hehe.
I hate reading hate meme things (sometimes I can't help peeking out of curiosity, tho x_x) cuz they depress me, but I know what you mean.
I can see how people would want English in the subs, no matter how weird the English is. Or how impossible/made up. XD So I guess I'll go with weird English and see where that takes me.
But sometimes the words are so hard to translate it just makes you wanna pull out your hair, yeah? I hear ya~
I would aspire to aquire Ohno's pants but...as ambitious as it sounds I'm sure they're not looking for that either. I know that didn't help. At all.
Just a personal preference, but I prefer English equivalents whenever possible to get the general message across. I don't like reading translations notes unless absolutely necessary because it interrupts the flow of the show and also takes you out of the 'moment' so to speak.
Good luck!
~~ P.S. I just realized that before we friended, I'd been secretly stalking your blog for some time for translations. *sheepish* I should say thank you for all your hard work now. Thank you!
If I were to talk about Ohno's pants, I could fill up six pages. And counting. XD I'd give them DIAGRAMS.
Hmm... I know what you mean by translations notes. I usually have to pause to read them too, cuz they can be as long as heck and that just ruins the flow. Oddly enough, watching someone else's subbed video is a different feeling from when I'm translating myself. But now that you mention it, I think I prefer it this way, too.
I guess I'll go with the baby-talk English. Thanks for the input~
And you're welcome! I'm glad we became friends, then. Otherwise I might've totally missed out on finding a friend like you ^__^

I'll see if I can come up with anything better... "Me sho happy" was the best my brain could do at 1:00am ~__~ *fail*

The only trouble there is that... when it comes to words like "Itadakimanmoto", there already is no easy way to translate "Itadakimasu" 0__0
So I was thinking: do I make a note for Itadakimasu, and then make another note for Itadakimanmoto?!
Thanks ^_~ Luck is always welcome, hehe.

Oooh, I didn't know Waseda had a summer program. Is she going for 3/4 months then? That sounds like a fun program too!
