Gotham

It is deep in the night -- hours have passed since the mages gathered at the nearby pub. Hector Hall has not rested since. Instead, he has studied, prepared wards. This is not a fight Wotan's bringing, it's a war. This is what the night speaks to all of them, when the future whispers frantic warnings ( Read more... )

The Bat does not wait patiently, either. But those who seek him know they have but to stay somewhere in Gotham after dark, somewhere public, and he'll be there.

"Fate."

"Batman."

Batman's heard tell that sometimes Hector Hall's the one driving Dr. Fate, and other times it's the Lord of Order Nabu. At this point in time, the aura is so clearly inhuman that it can't be Hector.

"You seek an uadience with death."

"Yes." Succinct, but that's the Bat.

Neither moves, but the sounds of the city fall away from them, as though all of Gotham were simply a backdrop to this conversation. As though, for this moment, Fate and the Bat were the only real people in the entire city.

"I have found others willing to aid you in the return of Ibn al Xu'ffasch, Son of the Bat, Herald of Death. Others whom you will have difficulty trusting."

He says it as a blanket statement, devoid of judgement.

A portal opens. John steps through first followed by Zee. They both are quiet and there is a definate distance being kept between them.

Once she is through the portal closes and she looks around for Fate and what the situation is.

Fate and Batman are in the center of the alleyway, opposite of where John and Zee appeared. They aren't alone. A woman watches from near the street, he frame backlit by the traffic.

"It's a terrible thing to lose one's child," says the woman. "Hector and I both know that."

"So he wants t'get him back?" Not really a surprise, he went after Cheryl even if she was a sister and not a child.

"That's what we're here t'help with."

"We will open the gates for you, Batman," says Fate. "And the spirits of your parents will protect you in death as they failed to in life. But this is not a journey to be taken lightly. It will take a toll from you."

More mysticism. The whole evening stinks of it. Batman wants to go into the doorway because he wants this damned job over, one way or the other. He isn't afraid to face Death; hell, sometimes it's easier than facing life. But Fate and the others are trying to help, and he needs their assistance to get back with Ibn if he'd lucky enough to go that far with this insane task.

He takes the ankh and tucks it into his utility belt without looking at the object or the man who gave it to him. "Anything else I need to know?" he queries gruffly.

"Yes," says Fate. "Don't eat or drink anything."

Seems to the Bat that such a suggestion is common sense, but he knows enough about what he might experience to realize something will tempt him. So he nods, commiting that especial rule to the forefront of his memory.

"An expect t'see the things you want t'have the most." and have them give you anything you want to stay or turn from your path.
