War's end

Do they matter?-those dreams from the pit?...
You can drink and forget and be glad,
And people won't say that you're mad;
For they'll know you've fought for your country
And no one will worry a bit.As quickly as it had begun it was over. A lark sang in the silence following the retreat of the aircraft, only to be filled with the sounds of pain ( Read more... )

Unaware of Diana, Donna or the rest, but finished with everything he can do, Travis regards his platform full of all the suits and vehicles the Lanterns disabled to make sure no one drowned or got hurt worse. Under all that tonnage, there's not a lot else he can do.
Pretty sure the Amazons aren't going to house their attackers, he begins the quick trip to the nearest military base on U.S. soil, putting up a rail around the edge of the raft so no one falls off along the trip.

And from there, he has to try and find out what happened to Marvel. He's done what he can here.

John Stewart is still hovering over the Themysciran soil, respecting the ridiculous decree that he not set foot on the island. Surveying the damage, tending to the injured where he can... and when the Amazons will allow him to.

Hoping to locate Diana eventually. This has to be a personal hell for her, and he wants to be there to help.

His jaw is still tense at his failure to prevent this mess in the first place. He wants to blame Luthor, but he's sure giving plenty of blame to himself as well.

John!

It's Diana's voice over their league communicator.

I may need help, they have arrested all those who invaded and plan to excecute them, I am on my way to put a stop to this once and for all.

He's confused for a brief moment, then... of COURSE they're gonna execute any prisoners.

I'm on my way.

And he's rocketing through the air to home in on her signal.

Donna is found staring down those keeping the 40 some odd mostly male prisoners in a cattle pen.

"...No, the word has come from Amazons, not our Goddesses. Let them go."

The same arguments. "We have a sacred law to uphold. The men came. We don't allow such things. They can be allowed to live having been here!"

She holds up her bracelets. "Do you have a concept as to why we wear these?"

Another sneers. "The same reason you were the symbol of the patriarch's religion around your neck? You have forsaken our ways apparently -"

Her eyes narrow to slits. "Faith offers hope. This is my brother's from his mother. That is the symbol to me. That, and followers of our Gods killed this man, so his followers continue to disrespect our ways and our lives while both sides compound the violence. Enough! We are better than this!"

And since this is all in Greek, the prisoners are still fearing that they have no voice on this island.

She lands next to her sister, fury evident in her face.

"This will not happen." It's not a suggestion and it's in English so all may understand. "These men will be set free from an unjust law and escorted to their homes. You would even spill the blood of one who protected your lives and show you how to combat the things you were not familiar with." She looks around at the assembled.

"I never thought that shame for my sisters would enter my heart but this day...this act...has done it."

"Whenever they come they destroy. All the ever were unbalenced without us. We're to bring balence. They won't listen to you ambassador." There's a emphasis on the word that make it sound almost like a curse. "Maybe they will listen to what men understand. The only thing it seems they do!"

Still, they are not coming near the pen.

Donna stands with her sister now, relieved. She starts to move towards the pen and the prisoners. she talks to them with her trademark shy smile.

"You can go now. It's all right. The war is over.'

Meda, one of thier mother's staff when they were children, had watched her lover for centuries less than a day before. "Traitor!" she cries as she hurls a spear at Donna's back.
