But a present does arrive at the Tower. Nothing spectacular other than an arrangement of exotic flowers and a note: Dinner Wednesday for your birthday? Thank you for being a friend. Love, Jesse

She makes sure they have sun and plenty of water, since she's not going to be around to take care of them.

She sends out an e-mail to Jesse after that:

Jesse,

Thank you for the flowers. Dinner will depend on the war. Let's hope for it.

My love to you and Wally,

- D

He's been back and forth from the Tower recently, keeping tabs on the rebuilding efforts - physically and metaphorically.

He knows what day it is. That's why he made sure he was here.

He pauses in the doorway to her room.

And she's mostly dressed to go, wearing the same expression you'd expect to see on someone before they head into the dentist with a particularly bad toothache.

It goes out the window with a smile when she sees Dick.

In her room, she'll find one of those cute toy WWF Championship belts on her dresser, and a cupcake with a lightning bolt made of frosting on it.

She cracks up laughing for a solid two minutes, which is a major feat under the circumstances, and one of the best gift of all.

After making a wish with her "birthday cake," (which you can't say what it is, because then it won't happen), she types with frosting covered fingers.

Wally,

Thanks for making me laugh - and a little "underdog," reference never hurts.

My love to you and Jesse,

- D

PS: I think I figured out what we're supposed to do about the new club. Tell you when I get back.

Yes, yes, provided she does. You have to think positively.
