Merry Beltane

Not that a group of Greek Amazons celebrate a pseudo-Celtic neo-pagan holiday. They do celebrate fertility rites this time of year, but the when varies based on the moon's light. At one of those festivals years ago, the young princess Diana wished for a companion. Magala took a part of the girl's divine soul and created her. The twins studied ( Read more... )

He's been back and forth from the Tower recently, keeping tabs on the rebuilding efforts - physically and metaphorically.

He knows what day it is. That's why he made sure he was here.

He pauses in the doorway to her room.

And she's mostly dressed to go, wearing the same expression you'd expect to see on someone before they head into the dentist with a particularly bad toothache.

It goes out the window with a smile when she sees Dick.

The smile's returned; though it's tainted by circumstance.

Hey.

Isn't always?

She hugs him briefly then moves back a bit. "Hello yourself. How are things?"

The hug is careful; his own bruises still recent. He looks into her eyes for several moments.

They'd be better if I didn't have to say goodbye to my little sister on her birthday.

She shakes her head, hands stil on his shoulders. "Thank you. And not good-bye, prala. I promised I'd get through this." She sighs. "I'm more worried about the larger picture here."

So let me be worried about the smaller one for a while.

He produces a small velveteen box, takes her hand in his and places it there.

I couldn't trust anyone else to give this to you.

she has to laugh a little. "You worry about everything." She alters her voice a little. "Size matter not," she replies in her best Yoda voice. Yeah, they are her favoite movies. That's what you get being raised mostly by teenage boys with the occasional adult supervision.

Her hand curls around the box a moment before opening it.

That gets a crooked grin from him. Then, he rests his hand on hers, stopping her from opening it for a moment.

I won't be offended if you can't take it. Call it a little extra insurance on that promise you made to come back.

Inside, she'll find an antique silver crucifix on a platinum chain.

She blinks at this.

Yeah, this might not got over very well on a island of women who are very, very pissed off at the concept of Man's world right now. Crucifixes are one of the biggest symbols of how different the worlds are. She's been doing a lot of thinking about this, and frankly, she's glad Dick just helped her make up her mind on the subject.

She places both her hands on the one holding the box. "Thank you. And you're right. This could be a problem." She looks up from the box and into her brother's eyes. "Which is why I'm honored to accept it and I'd like your permission to wear this into battle."

It's hard to miss the surprise in his expression. He'd been fully prepared for a polite refusal - expected it, almost; which leaves him scrambling for the words he'd had in mind.

I...

He clears his throat, and takes a breath.

The chain's not... original. It was my mom's, and...

And I've thought about giving it to you for years, but it never seemed right, or appropriate. Until now.

Uh, what I mean is... yes.

She's equally stunned. "Your mother's? Are you sure? I mean that you think...You don't mind me having this?"

I mean, come on. As for the religon, she's still an Amazon and Persephone's champion. Beyond that, this is a family hierloom. Sure, she thinks of Dick as her big brother, but she is not a Grayson. The implications aren't lost on her.

He learnt long ago that there's more to family than blood. More to bonds than possessions. He shakes his dark head.

I'm sure. If you are.

"Very." Donna starts moving her hair out of the way. "Do you think she would be okay with me having this?"

He grins.

Let me see... a tough chick who doesn't take crap from anyone and stands up for what she believes in... can't see any family resemblance there at all, nope.

She chuckles a little. "Not that tough." She turns around so he can put it on.

"Thank you. It means a lot. I've been thinking about things like this," she admits.
