GCPD downtown - The Roof

Oct 27, 2010 11:43

The GCPD building downtown was built like a bunker. It wasn't pretty in any sense of the word, but it was solid and more importantly, very defensible. Years of weathering Gotham's particular breed of nightlife had proven a veritable crucible to shake out the building's vulnerabilities and the end product had proven to be an unforeseen godsend in ( Read more... )

From the streets around a mile away, Ragman looks up from the shadows to see a bright "R" illuminate the dark sky. He smiles from behind his mask, and he feels far more heartened than he was several minutes before, when fighting a brainwashed Maggie Sawyer.

The reprieve of hope and optimism is short-lived however, as lights flicker on in the shop on the opposite side of the street. What fool turns their lights on whilst maniacs are wandering the streets? And who has power running to their store anyway?

Ragman slopes around the block, taking a circular route in case anyone else was drawn by the light, and enters the store through the back entrance which is wide open. He frowns as he sees the cause of the illumination. A hand-cranked generator covered in Christmas lights and with a kettle on top, which is starting to whistle to say that the water is boiled.

"Ah, I see a guest has arrived. Tea for two, methinks?" The Mad Hatter steps literally out of a cupboard, with two teacups on saucers in his hands. He looks very much the worse for wear.

"Such a rough journey across these lands. I just discharged myself from the hospital, the good ship Arkham, and was waylaid at every turn! But did they want tea? Dear me, no. They wanted my hat! And they were not entitled to that!" Tetch shakes his head most furiously, and puts the cups on a small table, picking up the kettle.

"My, what a motley garment you're wearing. I do not believe we've met."

"Ragman." Rory Regan doesn't move from his position in the doorway, more concerned about the people assembling outside the shop window than the deranged little man with his tea.

"Sorry to cut this short, Hatter, but we're going to have to take tea somewhere else. It looks like you've drawn a crowd."

Tetch looks up from his teacups, and frowns as he sees the mindless drones beginning to walk slowly towards the illuminated shop. "Oh dearie me. Those are the frightful savages I just told you about. They didn't want my tea! Not a bit of it! If they think they can just show up at a tea party unannounced after being so rude before, well... They've got another thing coming!"

The Mad Hatter switches the generator off and the store is suddenly plunged into darkness. "Now, maybe they will go away."

Shiva has been taking the time to catch a nap, of all things. They're not being attacked, they're a little stationary and she's not feeling her best. So, she's been sleeping, though she's doing so lightly in case something goes wrong. The sound of the machine kicking in causes her to lift her head and look over.

As the spotlight fires up, the traditional 'Bat' is not what is being projected onto the murky clouds above. Instead, the stylized 'R' on Robin's tunic is what illuminates Gotham's sky.

Bearing a satchel of M.R.E.s he liberated from the GCPD emergency stores, Robin comes over to his fatigued teacher.

Selecting some food for himself he offers the bag over to Shiva.
"Here. I don't know when we'll get another chance to eat."

Shiva takes the bag and pulls something out. The chances she'll actually enjoy eating it are small but it will be what she needs to keep going so, she will eat it. She takes a brief moment to look at Robin before she opens up the package.

Robin is a professional, but Lady Shiva is more than an average observer.
She knows him well enough to see that there is much more than the current crisis upon his shoulders.

Mechanically opening his own meal, Robin eats it without really tasting the food. His masked eyes scan over the darkened city all the while. Watching for motion. Looking for the slightest of warnings. Searching for someone who isn't there.

"Bane says Batman is dead."

Robin's signal draws a response, a distinctly Beetle-shaped echo of the Bat-Signal, visible from the outskirts of Bludhaven.

First good news all day.
Robin cracks a smile and goes back to refitting his belt equipment. Their journey to the GCPD building allowed him to stop my one of the secreted caches strategically placed throughout the city over the years by Batman and his various allies. Tim had made sure to pick up the heavier arsenal. He had a feeling they'd need it.

Cicada calls from his lookout position.

"The voices are getting louder! We may have to fight soon. I don't see anything yet though."

Nodding to Cicada, Robin snaps the belt back into place and shakes the kinks and soreness out of his body.

"Ok! Get ready everyone. Don't get to far apart unless you have to. They may try to divide and conquer."

The fighting staff comes out as Tim gets his game face on.

Perspiration coats the features of the first Green Lantern as he tries to keep the GCPD headquarters from toppling. "Is the building completely clear?" he asks tensely. "I doubt this will stand much longer."

Johnny Sorrow looks completely nonplussed as the building strains, held together only by Sentinel's will. Sorrow takes a moment to enjoy Alan's strain before answering.

"The 'innocents' are evacuated," a touch of sarcasm in his voice. "I believe you will have to convince your colleagues to retreat."

Neither Bane nor Cicada have the agility to follow Shiva and Dragon, leaving them little recourse then to take Sorrow up on his offer. Bane hears Sorrow's comment to Green Lantern.

"Like his mentor, you'd have to drag him kicking and screaming from this place." Bane said with finality.

If Johnny could grin, he would.

"I can do that," In an instant, the three vanish from the rooftop.
