The Justice League's lunar headquarters had taken a real beating during the Sinestro invasion of Earth, and some of the repair work required had been extensive. Fortunately, Green Lantern rings make ideal tools - and a handy way to inspect the results after it's done ( Read more... )

After a stop in the mess for an energy drink, Nightwing has found his way to Hal's location and watches momentarily. What the Lanterns do is just cool.

Tiny green tendrils of energy arc across the windows and the frames surrounding them, searching for the smallest imperfections - until finally, they withdraw into the ring.

A moment later, Hal turns back towards the doorway, raising an eyebrow at Dick's presence.

"Dick. How are you holding up?"

He shrugs and leans against a nearby wall. "Tired. Pissed. Messed up. Wash, rinse, repeat. Just want to know what the hell happened, you know?"

"You and me both, believe me. We've been careening from one crisis to another - this Luthor thing caught us all off-guard. If I hadn't had to deal with that rogue Daxamite I could've gotten through one of the portals myself.."

He shakes his head.

"What're you going to do?"

The green sphere and its two occupants descend into the atmosphere of Oa - Green Lanterns and simple repair droids move about, still working on some of the damage inflicted by the Sinestro attack here - but for the most part, it has resumed its austere glory.

"Welcome to Oa, center of the universe and home of the Green Lantern Corps. Most of the planet is barren, but this citadel and its surrounding facilities serve the Corps as barracks, information hub, meeting area - and for those we capture, a prison."

Nightwing, despite the threat, did not toss his cookies on the trip; one might suspect that a former circus acrobat has little issue with motion sickness. He does, however, look a little wary as he studies their new surroundings. "Center of the universe? That before or after Luthor came here?" he asks dryly.

A thin line of tension is in the young man's voice, and at one side, his fist curls and uncurls.

"Believe me, the Guardians could compete with him in the swelled head department."

They pass dozens of alien Lanterns on the way down, finally landing in front of an impressive edifice.

"These are the Sciencells - supposedly the most secure prison facilities in the universe. Only one prison break in the last billion years.."

The doors open wide to admit them, and Hal generates a glowing platform to carry them along past the glowing cells until finally they find the one they seek - Lex Luthor's.

Both fists are clenched now, along with Nightwing's jaw. Bottled rage simmer and threatens to boil over, evidenced by a darkened complexion. "Let's do this."

The instant the door is deactivated, Nightwing makes a headlong rush, low linebacker-style, at Lex.

Lex is speared into the side of the cell, his arms trying to shield from the barrage.

The instant they impact the wall, Nightwing's hands are around Luthor's throat.

He doesn't look like he intends to let go, either.

"Nightwing."

Hal's ring glows as he prepares to pull the other hero back from Lex if need be.

The pair arrive back at the Justice League Watchtower - Hal depositing Nightwing in the main hangar and making sure to stand a good distance away before he drops the bubble around the other crimefighter.

Nightwing's head is hanging, fists clenched, but his color is not as scarlet. He gives Hal a curt nod, nothing more, and keeps breathing in and out as if trying to master his temper. In this respect he is not his mentor: showing his feelings isn't against his religion.

They're not alone. There's a third figure in the shadows.

"You both look as if you've had a long day."

As he steps into the light, they can see a green man dressed in red. Usually, he's not good news.

"Wotan. I think you picked the wrong moment."

Hal's ring flares as he prepares to defend himself and Nightwing.

"Always good to see that guy," Nightwing grouses. "What're you thinking, Hal?"

Hal actually grins a little.

"We can't really trust him, but we have our own methods to get back out. And Hell doesn't really scare me - I used to work with the Spectre."

He shrugs.

"I say we kick down the doors and see what we can do."

Nightwing massages his jawline and asks, "Who you going down with? And who the hell do you think is DOWN there?"

"Whoever wants to go. And the first person that comes to mind is Bruce - he might not even be dead in the strictest sense. With those powers Luthor was wielding, he could've transported Batman straight to hell without realizing it."
