Visiting Time!

Kara wakes up on the sofa bed. "Ugh." Why was it taking so much time for the alcohol from absolutely ages ago to work it's way through her system? Surely her metabolism should extinguish this sort of thing almost instantly. And yet, every morning since drinking too much wine she's suffered from what the humans refer to as a hangover ( Read more... )

"If you're hungry, you should eat." Mar'i slides a bottle of aspirin over to her, then pours a big glass of milk. "Here. Try this first and see how your stomach likes it."

Grant had just begun to respond to those feather-light kisses when Kara stepped into the room in full regalia, and he lifts his eyes toward the petite Kryptonian. "I think you mean 'Why don't we get a room?'" he says, smiling at her and giving Mar'i a brief squeeze about the waist.

"Let me get a shower in and throw on my costume, then I'll be ready to head out the door," Grant replies, unwinding himself from around Mar'i.

Part of Kara feels very jealous as she watches Grant saunter off. Not because Damage was particularly handsome, or even because of his lovely personality, but because Mar'i has someone that close to her. It's not that Kara wants a boyfriend, but the one thing she feels she doesn't have is someone she can truly relate to. Kal is just so... well, stuffy. You can't open up to him without him going red.

"Yeah. That's what I meant." She shrugs. "So Mar'i... What kinds of crooks are in Keystone City these days? Is The Flash still fighting the Top, Captain Boomerang and Captain Cold?"

Mar'i nods her head with each name Kara mentions. "Though the Captain Boomerang is the son of the original, I think. Plus there's the Trickster, and a big brute named Girder, and some others I can't remember. There're a bunch of exhibits about them in the Flash Museum, plus the memorial to Mr. Allen out front. Would you want to buy some flowers to lay there?"

"That would be perfect... I've not had the opportunity to honour his memory." She sniffs. "Maybe if we could meet the new Flash there, at the museum...? That would be a good setting, I think."

She gestures with her head at the bathroom. "How did you get together with Grant, out of interest?"

Mar'i grins. "Would you believe it was while he was shopping? He'd come home to the Tower--the one we have in San Francisco--and he didn't have very many clothes."

"What, so you helped him pick some out online maybe?" Kara's not too sure.

The half-Tamaranean Titan giggles. "Oh, no. We had a shopping expedition on the mainland. Then I showed him the garden." She gestures at the hanging plants in the condo. "I still miss it, but I like having the hydroponics garden at the Philadelphia base."

"And that just enticed him into asking you out?" She doesn't pretend to understand how the male mind works.

"I wish. No, we just ... started doing stuff together. Working out. Training. Talking about things. I thought he was nice, and he thought I was nice, and then he asked me out on a picnic date at the top of the Tower. Isn't that romantic?"

"Very," Kara groans, resting her chin on her hand in a rather dejected fashion. It seems that out of the attractive and lucky alien life forms raffle, she came last. Nobody had ever done anything like that with her. "And it all sorta grew from there?"

Mar'i bobs her head. "And when the older Titans were talking about splitting us into two teams, Nightwing assigned me here, which I thought was pretty okay, because I'd missed a lot of classes at UCSF, so a couple professors were kinda grouchy at me, and I got into a good program here at the University. Grant wanted to come along, too, and Nightwing agreed." She shudders. "I hate to think about if Grant had had to stay in San Francisco."

"Good golly, that is lucky!" Kara seems to have picked up some of her cousin's speech patterns. "Are you two going to get married?"

Kara is answered at first with a shrug. "Maybe? I don't know. We both want to finish school first, and I want to start a hydroponics business so I don't have to depend on my Titans stipend or family money, and Grant wants to be an architect."

A moment later, Grant steps out from the bedroom, hair combed, teeth brushed, and dressed in his Titans uniform. Fortunately, he didn't hear the marriage question, because that's really something he and Mar'i haven't discussed much at all, the two of them preferring to live in the moment.

"So," he says, adjusting his belt a little around his waist. "Are we ready to head to Kansas?"

"Yep! I'm ready. Let's fly!" She runs for the door, and then stops. "But I don't know the way..."
