'Tis the Season

Dec 26, 2008 02:41

This holiday season, there is no phony distress call, no false alarm of an impending alien invasion. In fact, the invitations had been sent out weeks ago to as many individuals as the Watchtower's party planning committee could think of - with some help from the Justice League's computerized roster, of course. Small cards requesting RSVPs had been ( Read more... )

The Black Canary is enjoying a (nonalcoholic, vegan) eggnog. She eyes a sprig of mistletoe, but decides she doesn't need to resort to such tactics to get a kiss from Dr. Mid-Nite.

Ah, Ollie.... Well, she knew she'd be running into him up here, barring any kind of disasters in Star City.

She shoots a friendly smile right back at him, then wanders over. "Merry Christmas, bowhead."

Kendra Saunders quickly moves out from under the sprig of mistletoe.

No crazy kisses for her tonight.

She's brought her brand-new mace with her, but she's put it in a safe place for now. Whenever there's a chance, she'd like someone to look at it. Not necessarily tonight, but at some point.

Because the circumstances of getting it?

Too frickin' weird.

"Hello! Merry Holidays to you!"

Nightstar seems especially perky. Perhaps it's the half-eaten chocolate-chip cookie she's still holding.

"Nightstar, it's lovely to see you again."

Diana comes up from behind Kendra, making certain to make a sound before getting too close.

Mar'i offers Diana an Amazon salute, the cuffs of her costume looking rather like bracers. The effect is unfortunately somewhat spoiled by the cookie crumbs clinging to her sleeves. "Thank you! Are you enjoying the party, ma'am?"

Arisia is camping out near the cookies. She loves cookies, especially since they come in so many different sizes, shapes and flavors. These chocolate ones with the oats are really good.

Hal approaches, with an extra glass of punch in hand for Arisia.

"Better take this - I'm sure Plaz will be along to spike the rest any minute now. Any sign of John?"

"Thank you." Arisia takes the punch, not worried at all, though, about the possibility of it being spiked. Most earth alcohol doesn't touch her regenerative ability.

"I haven't seen him yet."

He nods, glancing around the room again.

"After that business with Mordru, I'm just worried about him. It'd be easy to become disconnected from people after something like that."

Donna sauntered into the party a little late. Though it was the holidays, it seemed as if supervillains didn't take a rest...but no matter, she was here now and was determined to enjoy herself.

I wonder if Roy is coming... she thought as she took a glass of red wine from the bar. I probably should've gone to that gala of Ollie's...

Taking a sip of her wine, she turned to the crowd of people that had gathered in the Watchtower.

I might as well mingle a bit while I'm here.

"He'll appear." Cassie Sandsmark says, smiling softly at her big sister. She bears in her hand a cup of steaming hot cocoa with marshmallows bobbing up on tip. She wraps an arm around Donna and kisses her cheek in greeting. "Hi."

"What are you a telepath now?" Donna asked, returning the kiss on the cheek. "How've you been Cassie? I feel as if I don't see you that much any more, and it's terrible. We need a girls' day out soon."

Cassie chuckled. "I know you, Donna. Maybe not as well as you know me, but I know you." She took a sip of her cocoa. "We do. Maybe some shopping. Lunch. Crazy make-overs at the make-up counter. We should go all out."

Raven stood off in a corner by herself, sipping an eggnog and eating a chocolate chip cookie.

It wasn't that she wasn't feeling festive. She was...well feeling festive for Raven. It was just that she had no desire to dampen the spirits of everyone else by getting to close to the crowd.

He strides like an ancient juggernaut, rippling through the crowd as though it were the sea and he the bow of a sailing ship. The Man of Steel's subtly alien features are more prominant in the light of the Watchtower; his chin just a little too rounded, his eyes a tiny bit too far apart, his face horribly cold when Superman doesn't remember to throw on his famous smile. In a certain light, it can almost be...understood, why certain people on Earth are so obsessed with the idea that the Man of Tomorrow is not here to help, but to conquer: he certainly can look the part. And he's coming closer...

...and, Superman proceeds to totally ruin it by rubbing the back of his head, grinning sheepishly and saying, "Shucks, Miss Raven, I'm sorry if those cookies stink. I've been trying to learn my mom's secret recipe, but I'm afraid I'm just not very good yet. Only reason I baked a few was because the pretzels went bad..."

Raven perked her head up at Superman's entrance and managed to give him a small half-smile.

"The cookies are wonderful, Superman," Raven said, "It is not because of the cookies that I am standing over here by myself, I assure you."

"Oh?" Superman asks, perhaps a little clueless. Does he know about Raven's occasional very real need for 'me time', or is he just playing dumb to put the woman at ease?

Honestly, it's probably a little of both, but Clark just leaves the question open, silently taking a cookie for himself and leaning against the table. It is a little awkward, because he does not want to spill the punch bowl...again...but for whatever reason, Superman has not taken Raven's hint.
