They lie that way for several hours. Recuperating after the massive slugfest.

Rick's eyes slowly start to open, to a mass of soft blonde hair.

It's... familiar, too. Even through all of the blood, sweat and tears they've been through... it still has her scent.

A brief test of his limbs, and his positioning, lets him know that, somehow, he's spooning with Jesse Chambers.

Wonderful thing to wake up to.

He lies still. Just listening to her breathe. Feeling her body expand and contract beneath his arm.

He realizes sharply just how much he's missed her.

She has a good sense of what she's looking around for.

"I'm... sure he'll be back soon."

"I...."

She's sure he won't be. The last meeting had the sour disposition of the post-Ivy phase, when he withdrew. When he was angry at himself and at life. When he was scared.

She wants to cry again.

"I need a lot of food, Rick. Will...wait right here, will you? I'll bring back something for us to eat." The whole thing has an eerie feeling to it, a sense of deja vu when Jesse brought meal after meal to Wally in the Watchtower infirmarl post-brain spores.

"All right," is his quiet response, swallowing as he notes the look in her eyes.

"You can bet I'll wait for you this time."

In its way, an apology for how they ended. How they drifted apart simply due to hectic lives.

"Thank you."

The tenderness of the comment, the regret, Wally's absence...it's too much. Jesse gives Rick a small kiss on the cheek, lips trembling, before she slips away. No Speed Force - she doesn't have the energy - but slip away she does, before her need overwhelms and she assuages that need with Rick as she did once with Bette.

She can't do that to Wally again. And she won't.

She won't return for a good long time, hopefully with a lot of food. She's starving...and in more ways than one.
