Did you declare a value on the books when you made your US custom's declaration? Even a US retailer would have to put a value on the books and cause this 'gotcha' from Canada Customs

Also, was there the option for yourself to mail it via US Mail? I find they are a bit slow but also very reliable.

Regardless, aggravating, but at least your back isn't any worse.

Yes, I declared a value on the books when I made the U.S. customs declaration. Even had it labelled on the Customs form as "Gift".

Didn't have an option at the convention to do U.S. snail mail, but I suppose if I'd had the strength and the time (as you'll see from the Day 1 entry) I would have mailed it by snail mail.

As you say, it was aggravating, but to be honest, I consider it worthwhile saving the added stress on my back. That was my main concern, to be honest.
