Chapter Siwon
In their last elementary year…
A young Sungmin was hiding in a bush and crying. He didn’t understand why young Kyuhyun was always mean to him. He didn’t do anything bad to Kyuhyun. He even stopped trying to befriend Kyuhyun but Kyuhyun never stops being mean or bullying him. He also hated himself for harboring a stupid crush on Kyuhyun, who would never like him back.
“Sungmin, where are you?!?! Kyuhyun’s gone so you can come out now!!!” It was Eunhyuk’s voice. Although he was already reassured that Kyuhyun was nowhere, he still refused to come out of the bush because he wasn’t finished crying yet. After a while, he could no longer hear Eunhyuk’s voice anymore. He assumed that Eunhyuk went to another place to look for him.
When Sungmin was done crying, he stepped out of the bush, froze and stared straight to a person named Siwon, who was an exchange student from America. “So you’ve been hiding there all along. Your friend, Eunhyuk, was looking for you. Were you crying?”
“No.” Sungmin denied even though it looked obvious from his red puffy eyes and wet cheeks. He was surprised when he felt the handkerchief being wiped on his cheeks. Then his hand was being pulled. They eventually stopped in front of an ice cream cart.
“What flavor do you want? My treat.” That’s when Sungmin decided that he liked Siwon. He eventually forgot about his silly crush on Kyuhyun and found a new crush in a form of Siwon. Siwon was always there for him to protect him from Kyuhyun’s bullying, to treat him to ice cream when he cries, to tutor him in his studies and simply being nice to him.
“What am I going to do when you leave and go back to America?” Sungmin asked. Siwon was only an exchange student and his few weeks in Korea were almost up.
“You still have Eunhyuk.”
“But he’s not smart enough to tutor me. He’s also stingy with his money and doesn’t treat me to ice cream.”
On the day of Siwon’s departure…
Sungmin refused to go to the airport and bid him goodbye. He didn’t want to go because he knew that he’ll end up crying. If he cries, Siwon won’t be able to cheer him up because he’s the reason why he would be crying in the first place. He simply lay on his bed and watched the slight movement of the clock’s hands as he wondered what Siwon would be doing right now. He assumed that Siwon was probably on his way to the airport.
There was a soft knock on his bedroom door, followed the sound of the door opening. “I’m not hungry, mom.” It had been an hour past lunchtime. He already lost his appetite from being too busy thinking about Siwon and trying not to cry.
“I’m not your mom and why are you skipping lunch? That’s not healthy.”
Sungmin froze when he heard a familiar voice that could only belong to his current crush, Siwon. “What are you doing here? Aren’t you suppose to be at the airport?” He didn’t turn his head. He didn’t want to see Siwon.
“You weren’t at the farewell party last night. Then Eunhyuk told me that you won’t be watching my departure at the airport so I decided to stop by to see you one last time.” Siwon invited himself inside Sungmin’s room and sat on the bed. “Sungmin, why won’t you look at me?”
Sungmin’s eyes remained locked on the clock on his bedside table and his back is facing Siwon. “Because I might cry and if I cry, then I’ll only cry some more because you won’t be there to wipe my tears anymore.”
Siwon lay on the bed and hugged Sungmin from behind. “Don’t be like this, Sungmin. Please let me see you one last time before I leave.” Some time passed by without any reply or reaction from Sungmin. “Eunhyuk also said that you have something to tell me.” That’s when he felt Sungmin becoming tense in his arms.
“Why does Eunhyuk have to be such a blabber mouth?” Sungmin mumbled but Siwon could hear it clearly.
“If you don’t tell me now, when are you going to tell me? It could be years before I could come back to Korea again.” Siwon said, trying to convince Sungmin.
Sungmin sighed as he thought that Siwon has a point. But on the other hand, maybe it’ll do good if Siwon doesn’t really have to know about his feelings. It would probably just fade away in time. He was in the middle of debating with his inner self when his body was suddenly turned around roughly.
Siwon was straddling Sungmin. His hands were clutched tightly on the pillow at the sides of Sungmin’s head. His face was only a few inches away from Sungmin. “Fine, you don’t have to say anything but can I kiss you goodbye?”
Tears started to flow from Sungmin’s eyes. He never thought that goodbye can be such a hateful yet sad word. His reply was to wrap his arms around Siwon’s neck and pull him down for a kiss. “I like you.” Sungmin whispered in between their kisses. “I have a crush on you for quite a while now.”
“I know. Eunhyuk told me.”
“Eunhyuk really should learn to shut his mouth.”
“But if Eunhyuk didn’t say anything, I wouldn’t have known that you wouldn’t come to the farewell party or to the departure. I wouldn’t have been able to see you. I would have been very sad.”
“I think it’s sad either way.”
“No, it’s less sad this way.”
Sungmin gave up his virginity to Siwon. His first time was fast and quick because Siwon might miss his flight yet gentle when compared to his future experiences. He didn’t mind that everything happened so fast but he wished Siwon stayed for the afterglow. He got himself drunk for the first time that night because he wanted to forget about Siwon. Can these strong feelings still be called crush?
Sungmin woke up and wondered why he had a dream about Siwon and their past together. They kept contact for the first few months since Siwon went back to America. Then there was some rumors that Siwon got himself a girlfriend. Sungmin refused to be in contact and never had contact with him after that.
They knew that they liked each other but the sad thing is they aren’t in a relationship and that they live really far away from each other but Sungmin couldn’t help himself. He really got jealous and angry after hearing the rumor. He didn’t bother to confirm if it’s the truth or just plain rumor. Because what he really needed was to get over his crush on Siwon.
“My cousin from America is coming to Korea for a vacation. He also told me that there’s a possibility that he might continue his studies here if his puppy love still likes him. Isn’t that cute? He actually has a puppy love here!” Donghae said.
“So that means your cousin was able to visit here in Korea before?” Eunhyuk asked.
“Yeah! He was an American exchange student back in his elementary years.”
An American exchange student during elementary…could it be…? Nah, it can’t be. That would be too much of a coincidence. Those were Sungmin’s thoughts. “Donghae, what’s the name of your cousin?” Sungmin asked warily.
“Siwon Choi.”
