It's not a very well kept secret in some circles that about 5 months ago I began working on JipangMUCK, NuJipang, Jipang 3.0, whatever people want to call it. MotM had died down significantly and hadn't shown signs of picking up since and I'd been mulling the idea of making one last game from scratch for a while now. ProtoMUCK tech has come a long

What aspects of a theme like this appeal to you?I'm not as hardcore into the aesthetics of Eastern cultures as I was during Jipang's Golden Age, but there's certainly a kind of nostalgic quality to the game that draws me. The fact that much of the themes going into it are pretty old certainly hits a few familiar old aches in me as a retired anime geek, and the name of Jipang itself does a similar thing to the roleplayer in me. As others have mentioned though, the combination of supernatural events and politics as neat and having a historical/fantasy game around when all the ( ... )

I remember you tossing around the idea of remaking Jipang way back when I was still staffing on MotM, and as before it's still something I think would be a lot of fun to take part of, so, y'know. this is pretty sweet

A lot of things! Mainly I think is the potential for it. You can get political intrigue going with people who maybe like plots of more gray morality, and with the fantasy elements people who might like to dabble in the People Who Are Assholes vs the People Who Are (Debatably) Not can get their share of fun as well. Black/white conflicts can be just as interesting or compelling to me as gray morality pieces, just as long as the writing is good. Besides that, feudal-ish Asian settings have a lot of appeal to a lot of people, myself included, and having seen some logs and hear people talk about it I was always pretty sad I never got to really experience Jipang firsthand. So, opportunity for me!

Twice more and I'll actually take on physical form. People really should be more careful about that sort of thing.
At any rate, like shadrad we've already talked quite a bit behind the scenes, but here are my thoughts anyway.

There has been a lack of a good MU setting for swords and sorcery for a long time now. The places where you can fit those characters in right now typically forces them to live alongside more futuristic settings, and typically place a great deal of emphasis on staff managed "official factions". There's a fine difference between staff helping to direct a story, and factions being heavily relied on as a crutch by players to drive the majority of interaction.
- What type(s) of characters would you be most interested in RPing? Filthy mongrel foreigners. While I'm extremely familiar with a number of the materials that are currently being sourced for FC material, I'm most likely to play ( ... )

However, I saw this cross-posted on Davin's LJ and couldn't resist! I'd heard passingly that this was possibly an idea to be done, but I kind of dismissed it as "typical MU* talk that goes nowhere" because let's face it, most of us are old and lazy like our cats.
Anywho, for this theme and game I'd be sorely tempted to come out of "retirement" to play, because I FUCKING LOVE FEUDAL JAPAN AND SHIT.

The fact that it's feudal Japan basically.

See above comment.
- Is there anything you hope the game DOESN'T allow/feature that would make it less appealing for you?Heavy emphasis on the importance of one Feature type or series theme that basically makes it seem very important compared to, say, any other series or theme out there. Alternatively, having themes of existing series be THE singular backbone of the entire ( ... )
