Character thoughts about Kiera after watching 2X01 of Continuum

I have to get back into the habit of posting my fandom stuff on LJ. I tend to go the Tumblr route of late, which is great for my guiltier pleasures (Vampire Diaries, anyone?) but not as satisfying for my other fandom loves beyond gifsets (Doctor Who, Highlander & Continuum ( Read more... )

While I was very much looking forward to the return of the show - it's a show filmed in Vancouver, Canada actually set in Vancouver, how could that not be awesome? - I do have to admit I was left somewhat confused by the season two premiere.

Why, for instance, has Keira chosen to go rogue instead of fighting within the system with the cops like last season? She didn't need to leave for her own protection, since only CSIS Agent Krycek suspected her of anything. (And can I just say I loved that she actually told him the truth, knowing he wouldn't believe it? :P)

Also, why did the message from future-Alec so disturb current-Alec? I get moving out from his parent's barn, because working from there was just stupid, but meh?

Questions, I has them.

I don't think Kiera left the police force because she felt unsafe, per se, I think she came to the conclusion she wasn't going to take down Liber8 from the confines of the legal system in 2013 so she's metaphorically taken the gloves off - and I also think it was primarily an emotional response! I don't think CSIS Agent Krycek (;-P) really registers on Kiera's threat radar (that might be a mistake on her part, we'll see). I think the bombing at the end of season one and having her hopes dashed feet when she realised the crazy guy hadn't rebuilt the time machine after all has pushed her perilously close to breaking, despite the strong face she's showing everyone but I do think she'll be pulled back into the fold once she's calmed down a bit.

As for Alec - I strongly suspect we haven't seen all the 2077 version told 2013!Alec yet. He looks too shaken for a guy with no answers.

One thing we are all waiting for are answers, which will no doubt be slowly parsed out through the season. I'm especially looking forward to finding out about the mysterious Mr. Escher who vouched for Kiera with Krycek. (Seriously, I can't remember the character's name but it is Nick Lea as a shady fed, so... :P ( ... )

At this point, I'm as much watching for the Canadian shout-outs as for the plot and characters. I love it!

I'm so jealous! The day a sci-fi or fantasy show shot in Ireland is actually set in Ireland, I'll probably throw a parade! (A good chunk of Game of Thrones as well the last two seasons of Primeval were shot here, but both series were pretending to be somewhere else :-()

One of the things I consistently love about Continuum is all the hints that Kiera's beloved world and CPD are just as bad as Liber8.

Oh yes, the future is grey and, I suspect, about to get greyer!

Very good points!

I admit I really didn't like 2x01 - there was too much going on and not enough time for any of it. The pacing was all off. I think it has gotten better by now, and I'm enjoying the show again, but I was really disappointed in the premiere.
