*Grins* I've just read my post back to myself and realised I've left two very important words out for the secondary character! - morally grey! My brain is obviously fudge!
I also just added Veronica Mars and Logan to my list - how could I have forgotten them?
I think that's one reason why I love the Hermione Granger / Severus Snape 'ship, even though it's not canonical.
I think you would like Robin McKinley's "Sunshine", it has some of that vibe, and also a bit of the question of self-identity for the heroine.
There’s talk of a US reboot - let’s hope it’s HBO style, with American money but mostly British actors. Not usually picky about this sort of thing but Avon with an American accent?
(shrug)
I haven't even looked at the British reboot (radio plays). If it isn't the original... it isn't the original, and I can't be bothered.

One to put on my list!
I don't mind reboots as long as they're well done (Battlestar Galactica!) but I really don't want to waste my time on a phoned-in remakes (The latest version of The Prisoner, for example!)If it's going to be a cheesefest, count me out.
To be honest, I'm not sure this is a deliberate move on the writers part or it was just plain lazy writing. (We need Elena to hate Damon for saving her life - quick! make something up!)

Well, I was hesitant with Veronica and Logan for a while, but convinced by the end. :)
