I'm rambling again...
My bullet proof kinks when it comes to character arcs in books/television
AKA: This is what I was thinking about while I should have been sleeping last night :-P
A character with strong leadership qualities (double points if it’s a woman) who has an antagonist/friendshippy/romantic relationship with a 'morally grey' secondary character. Bonus points if there is a subverted redemption arc - i.e. the secondary character is supposed to become as black & white as the main character but, in truth, they really meet half way. (and usually these characters are more alike than they care to admit.)

Duncan MacLeod and Methos (duh!) in Highlander
Roj Blake and Kerr Avon in Blake’s 7 (There’s talk of a US reboot - let’s hope it’s HBO style, with American money but mostly British actors. Not usually picky about this sort of thing but Avon with an American accent?)
Olivia Dunham and Peter Bishop in Fringe
Buffy Summers and Spike in BtVS
Veronica Mars and Logan Echolls in Veronica Mars
Helen Magnus and Nikola Tesla in Sanctuary
Sarah Connors and Derek Reese in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries (Talking about characters who are more similar than they admit! For 3 seasons I’ve watched Elena jump in front of danger to protect her love ones, and for 3 seasons I’ve watched Damon try to circumvent her suicidal tendencies only to be accused of not really loving her because he doesn’t respect her decisions . This is the girl who had her brother compelled the moment she thought he’d do something heroic and dangerous - pot and kettle, guys!)
John Crichton and Aeryn Sun in Farscape
Kiera Cameron and Matthew Kellog in Continuum
I love shows without this character arc of course (Firefly, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Game of Thrones & Covert Affairs!) but it seems I’m, by and large, predictable!
Plot themes I adore: the nature of reality and self-identity - what it means to be human/sentient - and saving the world!
I don’t ask for much….
