Depression lurks in the corner.
Depression waits for an opening.
Depression is exhausting.
Depression has little patience for others, and even less for you.
Depression remembers every mistake, real and imagined.

Remember that "It's all in your head" really means "It's invisible, has you by the sensitive parts, and knows all your tricks".

The rhythm of the first two lines made me hear them in my head to the tune of Nick Caves

, which is apt, since I've always seen that as a summary of depression.
Thank you for reminding me it is not a natural inescapable state.
