Veronica had long since settled into the quietness of her new life, always eager for more to do but mostly at peace with it. Lounging on her bed with her laptop in front of her, sorting through photos, it took her a few moments to save her work, roll of the bed and head to the door, but when she opened it, she smiled. "Howdy, neighbor," she said with a wry little smile. "Did you need to borrow a cup of sugar?"
"Hey," he replied, smirking a little at her. It was easier to joke than start off with exactly what he wanted to talk to her about. "No, no sugar. I'm actually cutting down. Don't want to set a bad example. Actually, I've brought myself over here for you to have company. Can I come in?"
Wriggling her fingers in the air, Veronica stepped back, then gestured to the room before him. She could hardly pretend she didn't enjoy having his company when it was offered, even if that was virtually daily."Mi casa es su casa," she said. "I guess I can bear your company a little while. What's the haps, paps?"
"Nothing really," he replied once he was inside, watching her close her door. He didn't actually know why he was feeling a little nervous. The worst that could happen would be her saying no or looking at him like he was crazy. Still, bringing up the whole issue of disappearances was never a fun one. "I actually had something I wanted to talk to you about."
