Admittedly, Pam hadn't thought much of Jim's telling her to meet him at the beach. She was well aware of what day it was, of course -- didn't think it was possible not to be, with everything that had happened before they got together -- but their wedding was also quickly approaching. If only because of that, knowing how much there was still left to get done, she wouldn't have expected anything for this anniversary.

When she got to where they were supposed to meet and saw Jim there on a blanket with food all laid out, she couldn't help being a little puzzled as she took a seat, though far from displeased. "Hey," she said, leaning over to kiss him briefly on the cheek. "What's all this?"

"Wow. I knew I wasn't that good with setting these things up, but I at least thought you'd be able to tell this is a picnic," he joked, biting back a grin. "I figured an anniversary is a good enough reason to eat, actually. I hope you're hungry."

"Yeah, I am," she said, the corners of her mouth lifting in a smile, though she was still visibly a little surprised. Knowing Jim, she probably shouldn't have been, but it was true all the same. "I didn't think we were going to do anything. How long have you been planning this?"

"A little while," he admitted. He had been trying to figure out something that would be low key, and he liked to think this was a good idea. "I didn't want to not do something, you know? Even with what's coming up."
