I has a flavour fish!

Meet my newest "pet", who arrived at my house (while I was at work) yesterday, along with 4 other new Bettas that are now living with us (which totals to 6 now). ashjulall and her kids (who were on Mid-Winter break) decided we needed some more fishies in the house (well, her kids want a hamster, but she decided to start with something ( Read more... )

Purty fish! I had always thought fish were more difficult to care for than rodents, the idea of changing the water while keeping him alive in the process seems more intimidating than leaving a hamster alone with a giant package of food while refreshing the bedding...

Then again, fish are pretty disaster-proof. They can't escape (well, usually), and if they eat each other the only evidence is the tank decreasing in population...

LOL. I've been doing some research on Bettas today, and I now know things I didn't know about them...so I guess I have some work to do.

Apparently the PH level in the water has to remain constant, and adding aquarium salt is good for them, among other things (I didn't know they liked live plants, for one). And, they can JUMP. So, I guess I need to get a book on Bettas so I can make sure he lives a nice life (which apparently they only live about 2-3 years).

I did find a site I want to reference later, though: Betta Talk. It is very interesting info for would-be owners of Bettas!
