"Yes," said Rodney. "Family. Like my sister, Jeannie. She's my sister, she's...actual family. But John's like, he's like...he's like an annoying little brother. An annoying mentally-challenged little brother," he added. "And Carson's like the funny uncle who smells weird. You know?"

"I don't recall Carson ever smelling funny," Jill answered after she'd given it some thought, squeezing Rodney's arm to drive home her point. "What does he smell like?" She always thought he just smelled like Carson, just like a guy, but maybe she'd been wrong.

"Hey, maybe I just don't have a good sense of smell," she decided, nearly stumbling off the boardwalk before she managed to right herself before either of them fell.

"He smells like...he smells like haggis," Rodney snorted, and his laughter, coupled with Jill's stumble, finally sent him off balance and somehow he ended up sprawled face down on the boardwalk with only a vague memory of actually falling and none of the impact, which was good, since it had probably hurt.

"Oh, my God, Rodney, are you okay?" Jill asked, dropping into a crouch. She sounded concerned, even through her laughter and she hooked her hands under his arms, trying to steady him. "Can you get up? God, I hope you can get up, because I sincerely doubt that I can carry you the rest of the way at the best of times and right now I'm still pretty drunk and did you just say that Carson smells like haggis?"
