Firstly, I don't think there's anything I can say about the VP debate that lepetitemort didn't say betterGay marriage shouldn't even be a blip on the radar this election (like we don't have more serious shit to deal with, really) but constantly boggles me that anyone (and this goes for both candidates) can talk about how they don't support gay marriage and ( Read more... )

I don't get it much either. Thing is its only a matter of time till it's forced to become recognized. Can't stop the progress.

I think it's more important to know about it as a blip than to find out later that a candidate is actually in love with Fred Phelps.

Now that the bail out bill has passed (/sob), the candidates can go back to sniping at each other. Well, my party anyway, the Dems are being rather nice about it for the most part.

We'll be seeing Religulous on Sunday. Glad to hear that it's good from someone whose tastes I like. :)

Hot damn, I want to see that so bad. I'm a big fan of biased-for-skeptics stuff like this. (Been a Bullshit! fan since season 1).

As for all us atheists laughing, it always amazes me that religious people think every religion but THEIRS sounds screwy, and that they just can't see it in their own. And then they're confused when we laugh. I once wrote a post trying to explain my viewpoint objectively with, "You know that South Park Scientology episode? Where they explain history according to Scientology, and have to flash a subtitle underneath it that says THIS IS WHAT SCIENTOLOGISTS ACTUALLY BELIEVE, and your response was a snort and then sort of amazement? That's how I feel about all religions! I need to put that subtitle under any religion, saying THIS IS WHAT CHRISTIANS/MORMONS/MUSLIMS ACTUALLY BELIEVE." It's hard to get across because it automatically offends people to have their religion lumped in with those WEIRD ones. I'll have to dig that post up when I get time ...

as far as gay marraige is concerned, Obama's job is trickier because, quite frankly, there's a lot of Democrats out there who are thinking "I like gays, but not that much"; whereas McCain doesn't have a lot to lose from saying "I hate gay marriage," that's basically his base.

as for why it's an issue, I dunno.. but I will say this: Prop. 8 is currently losing in most polls.
