The dueling realities of "hire folks" along with "but we may have cuts" gives me cognitive dissonance, but it's sadly commonplace.

I may have to steal your rationale for your vote. You've said it better than I could (even if I had the time to put words to screen, which I don't).

Steal away, if you like, but I'd appreciate credit if you quote me directly. :)

And yeah, about the hiring and budget cuts. I can almost understand the twisted logic behind it, but it makes my brain itch.

After nearly 8 years of the current administration, I'm no longer convinced that they're a bungling bunch of idiots. I think they've gotten exactly what they've wanted and that the current situation is entirely intentional.

I think you raise a good point. There's *nothing* like being the President, so no one really has experience.

I think there's one huge difference between someone like Barack Obama and George W. Bush, though. I think Obama knows he's unprepared, and is determined to do the job right. I think George W. didn't know he was unprepared, and saw the job as a plum assignment, a feather in his cap. I'm still not sure if he appreciates the enormity of what he's done.
