Fic: "Whole"

Dec 01, 2006 05:35

Title:  Whole
Pairing: Bruce Wayne/Harvey Dent
Disclaimer: The boys belong to DC and to each other, but not to me.
Notes: Happy birthday to tmelange!  Almost all of my fic is tied up in the WFA or Secret Santa right now, so when it comes to birthdays recently I've been a disaster.  The Harvey vibe's been going around (I blame arch_schatten, of course), and so I thought ( Read more... )

I think Clark has enough self-confiddence he won't take Harvey too seriously as a rival...but he doesn't like him. No, he doesn't like him at all.

I found him quite creepy too, the poor thing. He's pretty messed up even in college, although I do think most of the time he at least manages to keep a more stable veneer going. I rather wanted to cuddle him. Very, very cautiously.

Sooooo goooooood.

Harvey begging Bruce and wanting Bruce and hating himself for wanting Bruce...so great. And Bruce being so understanding and good about it.

Man I love Harvey. I love this version of him. Harvey is the greatest tragic character in the history of literature. There. I said it.

Harvey's a fascinating character study and I think there are tons of different ways to dig into his basic psychosis and explore it. He's, uh, multi-faceted. Mine's got a really nasty case of internalized father-figure going on.

Bruce...darn it, I tried to make him warier, and he certainly isn't opening his heart up to the guy, but he does ache for his friend. I think he kind of hopes he can help Harvey unwind a little. And maybe he could have, if he hadn't dropped out and left. :( One of those awful questions he's going to have to ask himself...

What a great take on Harvey! He's so effed up, and it's so damn realistic that he would be just this way. You can see the psychotic break coming, even here. Wonderful, wonderful. I especially loved this:

>>The nunchucks were a perfect weapon for someone like Harvey, Bruce thought as he got out of the man's way--quick, flexible, hard to predict. In addition, the risk of backlash and self-damage while using them was alarmingly high.

Great characterization throughout this, particularly in the interactions--the fight scene, the dialogue. This is just *extremely* well done. Kudos.

And thanks for the birthday wishes! I really appreciate it. :))

Glad you liked it! It was very strange to write, and Harvey ended up rather more effed up than I expected--I think he was in a particularly bad place at this point.

Thanks for the comment!

...no... no I think it was just a little closser to the surface than normal. that could have been a person in a bad place, but this is HARVEY. this wasn't just a bad place, this has been festering. harvey's been wanting this from day one. I think it just hit a critical mass.

True, true, that's a better way of putting it. Part of Harvey is always in the Bad Place, I think. Poor guy.

That's powerful o.o I don't know much of anything about Harvey so I can't really comment on the dynamic between him and Bruce, but... seemed good to me! :D And omigosh was I happy to see that you'd posted a fic ^.^ Now I can't wait to see how this affects Syncopation..

LOL, glad you liked it! there are (not surprisingly) many ways to write Harvey Dent, and he's a very interesting character. Batman's first and maybe greatest personal failure, in some ways...we'll see how this affects Syncopation, I already have to go back and re-write some scenes now, lol.

.... JESUS GOD, HARVEY IS SCARY AS HELL O_o Well, in the sense that he's clearly got.. some.. stuff going on. I want to feel badly for him, he seems so damaged, and I really do like his characterization, very fractured but solid, like you're not just throwing random bits of nuttiness here and there. Poor Bruce, though. This has got to be messing with him too, with all his good intentions. Dude, I cannot wait to see how Harvey is going to fit into the Spheres timeline furthur down, yeeeee~!! ^_^

And as always, elated to see more fic from you.

My version of Harvey has some very specific issues that branch out into all his craziness, the poor dear. I'm glad that it comes across as fairly, um, grounded craziness, you know? I really was uncertain I could write him at all, but this and the upcoming story have really helped me get a feel for my version of him. I'm so relieved it worked for you!
