Fic: "Whole"

Dec 01, 2006 05:35

Title:  Whole
Pairing: Bruce Wayne/Harvey Dent
Disclaimer: The boys belong to DC and to each other, but not to me.
Notes: Happy birthday to tmelange!  Almost all of my fic is tied up in the WFA or Secret Santa right now, so when it comes to birthdays recently I've been a disaster.  The Harvey vibe's been going around (I blame arch_schatten, of course), and so I thought ( Read more... )

Well, you already know how much thi story made me flail with joy and wail because omgharveypleasedon'tbebroken, buuuut I couldn't resist from commenting again :P

I think you handled Harv's issues with control, justice and his almost obsessive view of the law and why it should protect the innocent, all that nuances of Harvey's grown up personality, really well. He broke my heart, and he was begging and hating himself for it... man. Poor Harv! he needs some cuddles!

I guess all I can really say is that I wanted to kick Harvey, and I wanted to cuddle him. At the same time, almost. That's kind of extreme, of two minds, so to speak. Only you would make me kick Harv... :)

LOL, appropriate!

I really have to apologize to you for breaking Harv, Mina. Because he's gonna get broken, no two ways about it. So to speak. You will have to write the Happy Harv/Lex/Michael/Bruce foursome to make up for it! Now you've got me liking him so much I hate to break him too. Darn you, Mina! Darn you to heeeeeeeck!

Whoa! This was intense. I love how you set this in the same universe as "Music of the Spheres." The world you're building is becoming so complex and three-dimensional. Soon we're going to have movie-verse, toon-verse, comics-verse ... and Jen's MotS-verse!

And I think a few other people said this, but now I'm really intrigued about what's going to happen when Harvey comes back into Bruce's life ... and a little bit scared. *shivers* It's going to be fascinating!

Anyway, this was beautifully written, as always! I love the way you managed to say so much about their personalities just by describing their physical looks, and then the details of the sparring were wonderful, especially this line:

The gym was silent except for their deep breathing and the sound of their feet moving on the mats. And then Harvey going all out on Bruce, and Bruce's blood spilling on Harvey as he tried to stop him ... whoa ( ... )

Ah, MotSverse. I might have wanted to come up with a more pleasant acronym, lol.

It actually feels a bit like Birthright Lex to me in some ways...who has this whole history with Clark that he won't allow himself to really remember. By the time of the series Harvey's half-convinced himself (so to speak) that none of that happened, I think.

Although it made me wonder a little bit how he and Bruce got to be friends if he's always pulling this crap on him, especially the sly remarks about Bruce's sexual orientation.

Heh. Sadly, in my experience of seeing straight men interact, these kinds of jabs are a huge foundation for how men get along. They're always testing and teasing about sexuality. It never seems to let up, actually ( ... )

Heh, MotS isn't so bad ... it just sounds like the apple sauce! But on second thought, Spheres-verse probably would sound better. ;p

That is true! I had forgotten about that. I'm too girly and oblivious ... the interactions of straight men are beyond my grasp! But I think I'm slowly figuring them out by trying to write them, lol. You do a very good job of getting into the minds of guys, though, as far as I understand their minds that is. :)

it was one, now it's become a duo of stories...rather appropriatelyLOL. That is appropriate. I'll be anxiously looking forward to what happens in the next one (anxiously because Harvey scares me ... in a good way ;p ( ... )

My secret here is that Harvey is based quite closely, in many ways, on a good friend of mine who is straight, straight, straight, spends a huge amount of time mocking his male friends' sexuality, and always seems like an explosion waiting to happen in some vague, uncomfortable way--not saying it's quite the same way as Harv here, but it's a very unsettling vibe.

I'll be anxiously looking forward to what happens in the next one (anxiously because Harvey scares me ... in a good way ;p).

Mina's going to kill me, Mina's going to kill me...*covers eyes with hands* The poor boys.

And the chat was a lot of fun! It was great to "meet" you real-time!

Yeah. So this Harvey, no surprise at all that he's going to become Two Face.

Yeah, he's about halfway there already. Having Bruce around helps, but it can't last forever...

Harvey is just so... factered (Fractured?) even now, when he ought to be all right...

I can't imagine Harvey was ever all right...that level of psychosis has to run deep and start early. Usually he's better at hiding it, though.

the attempt to protect and help pull Harvey away from all of the pain.... So true to the hero in my heart and mind. Perfect.

Aw, thank you so much! He's very protective of Harvey, but has no idea what to do. IMHO, it's too late for him already, but Bruce can't ever be sure of that.

And oh, no wonder Bruce is all twisted up about Two-Face... he should have seen the possibility... Owwwwww.

*glances at her continuation fic, winces* It'll get worse. I'm not sure how specifically yet, but it gets worse.

I loved this. I've always been fascinated by Bruce's relationship with Harvey, and the way he longs for a cure rather than an end to Two Face's madness. This brings them together in a totally different way, but one that foreshadows their future struggles beautifully. Thanks. ^_^

Thank you so much for your comment! Harvey's not one of my usual characters (and I'm sure once the second movie comes out he'll be off in so many ways), but I've really come to like him and I'm hoping to do him some kind of justice.
