Wow, this was too deep for words! For a bit, I thought: "Oh crap, I've lost all my geek cred b/c I haven't read Tolkien, but this is such a sweet little piece, I can live with it." Then Blammo! Layers of MEANING. O_O Wonderfully done!! Gods.

I shall forgive you for not having read Tolkien! :) It was an oddly difficult challenge to make sure his story was recapped enough for people who hadn't read him while keeping Clark and Bruce geeky. :) Luckily, Clark was willing to lecture a bit. *grin*

Being a longtime Tolkien fan, (of the
BOOKS - and of his poetry) this was wonderful to read. (and nearly as lyrical as Tolkien's tales themselves!)

And I adore the ending. But of course, the line I loved best was Clark's 'geekitude' line. That made me LOL!

What a lovely gift, not just to birthday girl Star, but to all of us. :-)

I hadn't even realized until putting this up that the movies don't even cover that aspect of the Elves at all! o.o I love the movies and I suppose you have to leave some things out, but it's such a shame how much richness of texture has to get lost...

Anyway! :) I'm glad you liked this! Movieverse Clark is terribly geeky. *hugs him*

(And oh man, I need to email you about this soon but can't contain myself any longer...last night's KKM was awesome! Not a whole lot of Conyuu, but LOTS of flashbacks to a very amazing Conrad. *drools* You must watch it soon!)

I have no idea where the idea for that shell story came from, although I remember a fantastic drabble by taro_twist here Clark finds out about his telescopic vision by accident while watching a bird that turns out to be a couple of states over...it's such an awesome image and stayed with me...
