Mmmmm. My latest obsession is Laura Veirs, who sounds a bit like Lisa Loeb and Jill Sobule, but with a more surreal sensibility and a sometimes slightly-unsettling instrumentation. Her album "Year of Meteors" (nice title!) has a lot of fantastic songs, but two really stood out to me, for obvious reasons:

Isn't it? The first stanza isn't very, so I was kind of disappointed, but then the second one kicked in and I was like, "Whoa..."

The first is a song for Kal at his most alien. The second is pure Bruce. These are amazing!

Also, "Spelunking" makes me think of a certain billionaire...

Edit: Listening now. These are peripherally astounding. Simple, honest, and with the kind of echo one only finds on a horizon.

I agree, there's something really moving and...odd, in a good way, something kind of slantwise beautifuyl about her music. Glad you liked it too!
