Scans: JLA: Divided We Fall (3/4)

Jan 21, 2008 18:15

As we approach the finale of the split-hero storyline, the heroes are battling the Cathexis (that's apparently the name of the sixth-dimensional villain;  as you'll see below they talk in really annoying boxes).  They're not doing very well.

Badass geek Clark for the win! Batman kinda makes Plastic Man squirm for that scene later, although he doesn't actually kick his ass in repayment. :)

Gah, those boxes! I cut the many other pages of them talking because it was just way too annoying...

*giggles*

Bruce... He looks like a down on his luck mechanic. I mean, I KNOW his clothes are expensive... but the Alaskan in me just sees a handy man's belt and Carhartts.

Clark is like, the posterboy for nerds everywhere. 'Yeah, I fuck you up!' *glares threateningly through glasses*

And in the last panel, I don't really know who's the shaggy headed guy with the boxish man purse... but really, with all the promised violence, his 'Let me find my keys' look really just doesn't fit...

"You watch out! These hands are deadly weapons! Please don't hurt me!" When the bad guys actually attack them he totally freaks out, lol.

That's Kyle, and I could find nothing awesome to say about him! Yes, he seems mostly to be rather distracted. I think he's got a bag full of bat-toys that no one really knows how to use in there...

Bat Toys, eh? Is that the 'special' box he keeps for when Clark comes to visit?

*sees aliens being defeated with batman brand lube.*

BEWARE THE CONDOMS!

Yeah, that...took me by surprise, lol. arch_schatten and I were semi-joking that it makes one want to write Eel/Batman...

Oh sure, so when the crack comes, you can say 'This is all arch_schatten's fault!' lol, I'm onto you, Jen! I know that plan well, I use that plan often!

Surely, if I do come up with Eel/Bruce, it will be because of you :P

Eel looks so hot there! it's weird, yet badass. Woobie Bruce! he can't stand the rage, and the 'N-no..'. Bruce wants to be not effed up in the head, awww. Eel is darn hard to write well, but he's so cool...

Eel/Bruce based on the events in this arc would be really fascinating! Kind of messed up, but really fascinating! I have to remember to include their last little exchange once they're re-integrated, lol...

Guhguh!!! O_O Damn, this is hot. And badass. And in all ways, TEH SHIT!! I'm gonna bookmark this book on Amazon ASAP. O_O

The theme here, about heroism not coming from powers, but from finding the courage to go forward and kick ass when you've just got nothing left, that's just... quite possibly the most perfect theme I've ever encountered in this genre. And they did it so perfectly. Man.

Isn't it well-done? I love the way they draw out that being scared and not well-trained doesn't have to rule out bravery--and that these guys are heroes whether they have their skills or not. They're an amazing lot--all of the Morrison/Waid run has them that way, but this storyline is probably the most clearly articulated...
