Scans: JLA: Divided We Fall (3/4)
As we approach the finale of the split-hero storyline, the heroes are battling the Cathexis (that's apparently the name of the sixth-dimensional villain; as you'll see below they talk in really annoying boxes). They're not doing very well.
Eel O'Brian: Seriously Badass. I mean, deliberately threatening to mug a woman for her necklace just to make Bruce Wayne freak out? That's some serious psychological warfare.
Prepare for some seriously woobie Bruce...
Bruce's little "N-No..." just kills me there. As does the fact that Eel is drop-dead sexy.
On the other side of the country, the Cathexis has finished off the JLA:
In the book, of course, this is a Double Page Spread of Awesome.
Clark's frightened eyes and balled fist! John cocking his gun! Wally bringing a baseball bat to fight a sixth-dimensional enemy! Bruce's bandaged face and the sight of Bruce in civvies wearing Batman's utility belt! And just about everything about Eel in his red suit and trenchcoat! And more than all of these, the message that true heroism consists not in facing the enemy when you can fly or are the best martial artist in the world, but in showing up when you know they're going to mop the floor with you.
Because they don't actually stand a chance at all, but that's not the point.
