Ditch the Dad

Jan 13, 2008 08:17

As I have mentioned previously in this weblog, I do frequently suspect that I am being subjected, by some presumably malevolent entity, to far more than my fair share of bizarre and inexplicable encounters when, as necessity occasionally demands, I venture out of the safety of my flat into the wider world. I do not specially seek out the company of ( Read more... )

Maybe you should warn the university they have applied to, he wasn't a large bald man with glasses, this father?

I am staying well out of it, clearly there is some sort of weird parent/child dynamic going on here that is completely alien to my experience.

No, he was small and dapper, frighteningly normal in appearance.

Are you sure the son wasn't one of those ventriloquist dummies and the dad was throwing his voice over that way? You did say the dad had put in his resume as well, even though he was retired.

In case this whole event scarred you for life, here is help:

Ventriloquist's dummy phobia. Well I'm damned. This is one of those problems that I never knew existed. It reminds me of the moment on Dragons' Den when the woman trying to flog the "ShePee" device that allows women to urinate standing up told the Dragons that female soldiers have to put camouflage paint on their bums so the enemy can't see their white cheeks when they have to pee. I just didn't know it was an issue. Then again, what's the answer to the question "If you are living with ventriloquist's dummy phobia, what is the real cost to your health, your career or school, and to your family life?" I'm slightly lost for words.

Perhaps I could solicit JP: what revelations have left you gobsmacked by your inability to recognise or predict them?

Dear JP,

I hope this finds you well, are you too busy these days to enlighten your readers lives, or have you moved on?

I am well, but excessively preoccupied with work. As a result, I do not encounter anything of interest, and even if I did, I wouldn't have any time to write about it.

i hope so! i'm so fond of your brain. the last few weeks i've been depressed and feeling like, "even if i could access my blog, my life is so routine and sucktastic i have nothing to blog about." and then i thought it wasn't that my life is dull (if i can blog about working in the fucking CRACKER BARREL i can blog about living in china) but that i kind of wasn't making space for discussing my life.

*hugs*
discuss the little special things, because they make you realize how good your life really is.
and, you make me laugh.
