I took the ending as slightly suspicious that his young children look the same age as they were when he last saw them, while his daughter on the phone (when he talked to them early in the film) seemed a little older, approaching that gloomy pre-teen/teen years.
Also, it gave me the impression that Dom didn't know how he manages to wake up on the shore with Saito who is quite old... where he manages to see his children playing on the shore. It's still the dream, so everything after that is still a dream.
I can't wait to watch it again on Wednesday.
Also, Tom Hardy is definitely delicious, but I completely go for JGL and his character. Artie. YUM.

DAMN IT. I meant to make mention of that! I also loved that you never saw his kids' faces till the end.

YES. He was nom, too. I feel bad because I usually can't see him as anything else other than his character from "3rd Rock From the Sun", but I liked him lots in this.
I LOOVVVEEDDDD IT. The ending made me sooo mad. I had a professor in college who HATED writing "it was all a dream" endings in stories because it was easy. If it was all a dream then NOTHING that happened mattered and it was just a big waste of time, so I've kind of taken the same mentality, so "it was all a dream" endings PEEEVVE MEEE.
So I'm in the boat that it WASN'T all a dream because if it was I would be peeved. And also, in all the time he spun the top in dreams it never even faltered, it just kept going. However, if you watch the top at the end, it kind of falters a couple times before it fades to black. That is my reasoning for saying that it WASN'T a dream because it was GOING to fall over.
At least, I hope it was. But of course, WE'LL never know. Damn them.
I just saw the movie last night! I can't even begin to react to it. There were moments when I was sitting there going "OMG THIS IS GENIUS" but I really need a second viewing to process it.
Also, I'm of the JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT NOM NOM persuasion, haha.
OMG I loved the movie. I wondered about the spinning top too but if you notice right before it fades to black there is a sound cue that the top was going to stop spinning. So I'm thinking not a dream either. Or at least I hope.
I ahve to admit I don't know Tom Hardy's work but after this I want to. He is delish.
