I am sooo tired. Today I came home from cabin-ing with friends, which was fun, but I seem to have returned with a cold, which is less fun.

Before I left I saw the Sweeney Todd movie, which had a few excellent bits but was overall on the disappointing side. This will not, of course, stop me from listening to Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman singing ( Read more... )

In an interview, Helena Bonham Carter said that she and Johnny Depp were encouraged to not enunciate and such. So it sounds like she could have had more energy... I don't know why Tim Burton thought that was a good idea. :P

The lack of enunciation was reeeally bothersome. It made the lyrics so difficult to understand, which made the music less interesting, which added to the feeling I got through the whole thing that Burton was trying to downplay the fact that it was a musical, which is ridiculous when you have that music and those lyrics to work with.

:/ Normally I really like Tim Burton, but I just do not understand what he thought he was doing with this one.

Agreed. :( The whole thing needed to be funnier, I thought, and understandable lyrics would've done a lot for that.

He wasn't a real sailor. He was obviously just the cabin boy, hired on because he was pretty. (And kept safely below deck in case of strong winds.) I mean, after all, when Judge Turpin has him in the study, and he's all "the whores of babylon! the concubines of siam! the catamites of greece! *LEER*"
