There's been a lot less nothing-doing this weekend than I had originally planned for, but I'm okay with it. I hung out with friends all day yesterday and had an overall fantastic day. I've been taking it slow so far today, but Dave and I are about to go get lunch, and later tonight, Kelly comes in to PDX for a few days. I didn't know until ( Read more... )

I didn't feel any big changes about being post-30, and it didn't prompt any new self-reflection or evaluation/changes in my life. I have more perspective in which to realize that I'm doing a pretty good job overall at managing my life and making improvements, and I can relax into it... there's no big fear hanging around that could Ruin My Life.

Moving in with Brian was a milestone event, but there were multiple reasons for that: relationship commitment, working through grief, leaving behind the first home I bought, getting rid of many possessions, accepting financial interdependency, making a choice that seriously transgressed my mom's conservative moral viewpoint... I'm always uncovering new thoughts about it. If we marry, I'm sure we'll throw an extravagantly fun party, but it's the everyday being co-main-characters in the story of our life together that brings the real adventure.

When I turned 30, 15 years ago, it was a milestone. When I turned 40, I was happy I survived as long as I did. When I tunred 45, I'm glad I look as young as I did when I was 30. :) Haha.

I've really been enjoying 30 so far, too. I've been learning to stand up for myself more and explore my boundaries of comfort, try new things. The milestone birthday was really just a good excuse to start.

When I see my age on charts (at the doctor's office, dentist's office, etc), I always have this surreal moment where I feel weird and panicked about it. But I have to say, I love telling people my age, because I know I look younger and I'm really digging that. It was annoying when I was 21 and people assumed I was still a teenager and talked down to me as such, but now, I love the surprised reaction.

Most people seem to think I look younger than 30, but I don't know what age I really look. My gray hairs are more prominent, but I still have teenager skin...I have a bit of a baby face, maybe? And then I'm almost six feet tall, and no one talks down to someone who towers over them...I do get vastly different assumptions about my age when I'm standing vs. seated. That's funny to me. Anyway I have no idea what 30 looks like. It's certainly not old, but what about it is discernible from 25 or 27?
