I'm feeling okay right now but not sure that'll last. I never let myself look at the clock last night because I knew whatever time I saw would really discourage me, but my estimate is that I finally got to sleep around 2 or 3. No idea why I couldn't sleep. Bed was comfortable. I wasn't hungry or thirsty. Maybe it was just knowing I had to be awake ( Read more... )

There are also electric assisted bikes. I have no idea how they are compared to biking or scootering.

I too appreciate the (occasional) convenience of a car.

Yeah, if I commuted, it would be really difficult without the car option (like when I fell off my bike and skinned my knee all badly last year).

From a brief conversation i had with a neighbor years ago, scooting in portland apparently sucks in the wintertime.

Scooting in winter can't be worse than biking in winter! Really, it's rare that I don't have a car at all. When my husband has these all-week tournaments, he usually flies to them, so the car stays with me. Then he works mostly Fri-Sun tournaments nearby, so he'll drop me off at work on Friday morning, and then I get a ride from a coworker to the WES station. There are very few weeks throughout the year where I'm really stuck without a car for several workdays in a row. But these are the days that make me wish I had some other option. I really like that when I ride my bike here, if I'm not feeling it for the way home, I can get my husband to come get me most days :P

I generate a lot of heat biking. Dressed appropriately, I can bike down to ~25 deg F. Scooting would be colder (faster, less waste energy), but would be considerably faster.

It's pretty easy to get around Reno by bus or by bike, as it's not a 'huge city' by any means. But I always like having the option of a car :P
