i have just watched a documentary about nick drake, and in the process, found one of the most beautiful poem i have ever encountered. it is by nick drake's mom, whose name was not mentioned throughout the documentary. even when she spoke (her face was not shown throughout, i'm not sure why. instead, they shot a close-up of rain falling on leaves ( Read more... )

got curious and googled. the song you heard, was it "how wild the wind blows"?. you could try looking for that.

not sure. they just played a very short bit of her song. but it was really quite, quite gorgeous.

..wikipedia quotes his mum quite a bit: I would assume she has chosen not to be in the public gaze and maybe her stuff is under another name, if published at all: Many thanks for this one.

does it? i tried looking for her under the entry molly drake and came up with nothing, and also under nick drake.

it's a puzzle. i know that there were some plans to include some of her songs in his CD remasters, but no idea if it came to fruition. ah well.. something that i'll always keep an eye/ear out i suppose :)

If you google Nick and look at his wikipedia entry you find several places her version of him is cited: again, without stating her name. I think she's private, that's all.I would be, given the way the press behaves..

i actually quite like it that she's private :) though it makes it extremely hard to find out more poetry written by her. hopefully someone will come across this blog entry one day and send me a really really nice email with more stuff!

Hey folks,

There is another 4-part documentary on YouTube called "Nick Drake - A Stranger Among Us Documentary". It contains another extremely beautiful song by his mother Molly Drake (in part 2 of the documentary).

Wish there was a CD we could buy of hers. She is brilliant
