creative surge - calling all loom knitters

So on my lunch break today I ran to the thrift store(Savers). My sis loaned me last year's Isaac Mizrahi satin stripe tux pants and matching blazer for my company "holiday dinner" this Thursday nite. I need a top to wear, in case it's too hot to leave the blazer on, or at leat so I can unbutton the blazer. I bought three shirts (one with the tags ( Read more... )

Okay, get your pencil! Tube top from a t-shirt. Cut off the arm bit straight across. Cut off about a 1" wide strip from the shirt OR you can use ribbon. Flip the tee upside down, make a v-in the seam allowance to the stitching. Thread 1" strip or ribbon through. Wallah! The ribbon/fabric ties around your neck. Your other option is doing the "cut off the arm bit" and then fitting the rest and stitching down the sides OR using elastic in place of the tie. The advantage to flipping it upside down is that other people are less likely to notice no bottom hem.

p.s. no clue on loom knitting, though Elena is getting a circular one as a gift for xmas... passed on from a friend that didn't need it.

Your way definitely sounds easier than the one I found online. I have this red shiny T-shirt style shirt that used to be my mom's that is made of that "faux-velvety with "wanna-be-sequin" i.e. shiny red dots on faux velvet fabric. I think she bought it like 5 years ago from Waldemart for a holiday dinner. Do you think your method would work ok with that fabric? I need to take it in or I'll be swimming in it (I think it's a 26/28 or 22/24. I know it was big on me when I wore it the company dinner a couple of years ago. But I can do that after I cut off the top part of the shirt by just pinning and sewing up the inside seams with my serger. The thread won't have to match. If I don't have ribbon that will look good with it I could maybe use a fancy yarn or just have the V be in the back and run elastic through? I think maybe this just might work.....
HaHah!

I'm sure that would work. Keep the elastic/ribbon thing in mind when you take it up... it works because t-shirt hems tend to be 360 degrees. As long as you compensate for that, it should be no problem, esp. since you have a serger.

I will definitely try this, especially this summer for me and/or Phebe, but it looks like I won't need to to do it tonight ( ... )
