Monday coffee rant

As usual, I start my Monday saying, "Well, I didn't get EVERYTHING done that I wanted to, but, ..."
I did totally clean up and find all the attachments for the vacuum cleaner. Hadn't used it in a really long time. Put in a new bag and let P vacuum the living room rug.

Um, I knit on that bleeding class blanket for Ps class auction basket until my ( Read more... )

Funkeys and their not-working-ness... ext_69868 November 12 2007, 16:35:56 UTC
Sorry to hear you're having issues with your daughter's Funkeys hub. The first release of the starter sets had an issue with some computers. There is a bug-fix you can download from Radica and a guide on how to apply it here...

The game is fun, my kids have had a blast with it... :)

I already tried that at first when it wouldn't work right away, but the patch didn't help. Turns out it's the USB ports on Ps computer. They don't work. I installed the funkeys with no prob at all on our other desktop, so I know it's not the game that's the problem. I tried plugging other things into her USB ports and it doesn't even recognize anything is plugged into it. I checked the device manager and it states that the ports are "functioning properly"{, which they clearly are NOT, so am trying to work out some sort of solution at the moment. It won't do to have a pc with no USB port. Everything hooks up via USB these days.

You can get her a USB splitter (this is just the first one that came up in my search) and she can use it on the same port as her keyboard. They do have serial adapters, but if you have an old serial keyboard, you might be able to save yourself the trouble of buying anything and just swap hers out.

Knit blanket for the class...how long is it now and when does it have to be done?

Well I checked and there aren't adapters to plug a USB hub into the serial port, but we do have some old keyboards in the garage. I'll have to see if any of them are old enough to use a serial port. I hadn't thought of that! Someone here at work told me you can't plug a hub into the USB keyboard port, but I don't see why you couldn't? I mean it's a USB port, right? So I could get a 4 port USB hub, plug that into the keyboard port, and then the hub could be up on her desk for when she needs to hook up stuff or save to a flashdrive. And then either hook the keyboard up there or find a serial keyboard. What do you think ( ... )

The big guy says the hub working depends on the computer, but it should work so if you buy the USB hub, make sure you save your receipt just in case it doesn't.

Good luck on the blanket! Let me know if you need any bookmark designs. Photoshop is like crack (and it's oddly relaxing...) and if you tell me what you or P wants, I could just email it to you. :)

hmmmmm. maybe just some short quotes about books and/or reading would make some good bookmarks? I think I have some cardstock for the printer, but if I don't I have some scrapbooking cardstock that's already the size of bookmarks and some sticker paper for the printer, so I could print and stick. I might even get around to a few fabric ones, they're easy...if I have some doublesided adhesive interfacing that is ( ... )
