Hi everyone!

I've heard stories about people taking a week or two of kenshuu in the summer to go study Japanese intensively in one of the bigger cities. Have any of you done something like this? Do you have any programs to recommend? I'm not sure where to start with researching different programs so any info is welcome!

This question was on a test for my 1st year junior high students. I believe it was an official test produced by the textbook company. I didn't see it until today when we returned the test and gave out answer sheets. Without any context, how would you translate this sentence, "それは大きい国です" from Japanese to English ( Read more... )

This is my first year in the JET Program and I'm going to Fukuoka.  I don't know any Japanese.  Well, I only how to say Hello, Thank you, and I'm sorry.  Everyone I talked to about JET spoke in fluent Japanese before they went to Japan.  Did anyone here NOT speak any Japanese before joining JET? What is the general opinion on the JET-offered Japanese language courses? I'm not sure if they will be useful since I already have a BAS in Japanese Language and Literature. I took the proficiency test and got a 95% on elementary and 90% on immediate. Is there anything useful in the advanced coursework that I wouldn't find at http://www. ( Read more... )

Haven't learned katakana or hirigana yet? Then I suggest you start! My favorite way to learn was at Real Kana, an easy to use flashcard/quiz-style website. Check it out. You can select which characters you wish to learn and you can even select to see them in different fonts. It's an incredibly useful website.
